The bugs of SUMMER

Lets talk bugs. The bugs of summer. This is one post I am itching to write. In fact it is so bad that I can not even show you pictures of them. They are driving me wild.
Mosquito's, and what are they feeding them lately that makes me swell up and bruise like I have been hit by a baseball? For those of you who don't get itchy just talking about them, here is a site.
Scratch your itch, find out whats the buzz on skeeters. Lately the Garden Brat. and I are skeeter favorites. I come home with huge welts 4 inches across that take forever to go away. All day long, we compare bites.
I was out taking photos, and SMACK!, got one. They are out in the daytime now. I was shooting the rudebeckia and deeply concentrating on focus, I finally realized that a little blood sucker was attached to my knee. But not for long.
So if anyone out there has some thing, anything that works on stopping them from feasting on us, Please! let me know. I would also love to hear about any remedies that work on the itching.
There is nothing more annoying than a persistent mosquito buzzing in your ear at night.
Or is there?
More bugs of summer coming, for those with arachnidphobia, there will be no pictures of SPIDERS, we will just subsitute a flower.

  1. We couldn't keep the Mosquito Plant in stock at the greenhouse. It's a lemon scented geranium. I have heard mixed reviews on its effectiveness but some claim put it in pots on the deck kept the mosquitos away. I am a bit of a skeptic.

Nice cosmos. Tried 'Double Click' this year and love em!

  2. Enjoyed your post. I know exactly what you mean. The little blood suckers are ruining the summer for me too. Who wants to douse yourself in Off to run outside and snap a photo?
The absolutely worst thing about summer!

  4. Hey Hunky, we sold those citronella geraniums also. I am on the fence about whether they work well. But desperate people like me will try anything. Maybe a bunch in my pocket at work?

  7. Oh that buzz in your ear at night... I HATE that! I had the problem all the time when I lived in Hawaii for a short time.

Interestingly, I have had my mosquito population dwindle to nothing in our garden because of the pond. The dragonflies breed there and in the evening they fly in a canopy over the garden eating all the nasty bugs. They are my favorite garden bug.

  8. I can't help with the before on the pesky little bugs but i read a tip about how to get them to quite itching: Dab a bit of toothpaste on the bite. I tried it and the swelling went down and QUIT itching and 24 hours later, the red bumps were GONE!

Do skeeter bites have a preference towards flavors? Mint, peppermint?
