A date with my " Sweetie "

We went for a walk yesterday, to our local farmers market. The local grown produce is at it's peak right now.

It was bright, and fun, with music playing, and people browsing the purple potatoes, kettle korn, fresh cut flowers, hand roasted coffee, herbs, homemade pies, and breads.
A big thank you! to all the people who made the effort to get up extra early, and pick the veggies, grow them all summer, drive here, and stand in the hot sun.

Way to go guys, and we do really appreciate it!

Due to all the construction going on in White Rock the future of this lovely little market is up in the air. Apparently it's more important to have high rises than markets. After the farmers market we "wandered" [ his terminology ] up to the cute little City garden located between 3 condos. It's becoming a major haunt for me.

We find this little strip between the condos quite facinating, due to the perfection of the grass and the gardens. Who has the patience to do that?

I met this wonderful man there last week, weeding in between the brickwork. He lives in one of the condos, and was concerned that tourists might not realize the City no longer uses pesticides in the parks. [ HOORAY ]

So he spends hours a week, doing the weeding for free. This is a guy that deserves a commendation.
Thank you for all your hard work!

After the park, we "wandered" back home, it was too hot to do more then spent the day watching Bootsie sleep on the chair.

What did you do yesterday?

  2. You sure had a nice day. I keep meaning to get to the farmer's market around here but I haven't yet this year.

I went out to the garden and looked to see what is still producing. I still have okra, basil, peas, and peppers. I planted tomato and squash plants a month ago and need to stake the tomatoes but I didn't. I just picked a few peppers and came back in. Tomorrow I have to pick Okra for sure. I get lazy this time of year.

  4. Eve, okra sounds like so much fun. We obviously can't grow it here, just not enough heat for a long enough time. Enjoy your harvest. I am getting "tired" thats what I am calling lazy this summer. When the weather changes I will be back to my energetic self.

    Blu, thanks for the comment.
Vinegar and hand weeding are great and safe alternatives to chemical herbicides. Some people are still not aware of the dangers of Weed and Feed. Case in point, people at the garden centre who throw a sack of W & F on their wagon, and then let the kids ride on top.
It contains nasty chemicals that are not people friendly. We need to educate people one by one.

  5. Such a great ramble through your "lazy" Sunday. I love the colors of the photos in this post. I found them so soothing and relaxing--even the bright cosmos.
