Not quite what I thought it would be.

Our community garden plots are beside our condo, so every time you drive out, you get to see our gardens, warts/beauties and all.
In my daydreams, I had hoped that my garden would be a showcase, the one neighbours would point to with wonder "Oh look how beautiful Jen's garden is". Well it's not happening like that. Late planting, poor soil, and bad weather have hampered all of us. My beets are yellowing, my zucchini is mildewed, and my cilantro has gone to seed. Also growing zucchini has been a struggle for me forever. I just can't grow them. No matter what I do, or where I try they just don't want to grow for me. This one is not mine, but hint, hint, maybe someone else will give me some of their harvest.
But I do have some wonderful and happy endings:
Volunteer dill, I love dill.
Russian Blue potatoes, they are so tasty, and purple.

Oh look, purple broccoli! Just kidding. It's a hydrangea. Purple bush beans,, we ate them last night for dinner.

Tomatoes are soon to be ripe.

Peas are ready, carrots are coming along.

Lots of nasturtiums. Great in salads

Some great lettuce coming out of someones garden!

So it really is a success, just not what I envisioned. And everything tastes better because we grew it ourselves.

  1. its funny, it seems like you can grow almost anything, while i have a black thumb. But Zucchini is the one thing I can grow and have never had a problem with! any type of flower, on the other hand, withers and dies if i so much as look at it.

thanks fory ur help identifying my flower the other day!!

  2. Lets make a deal, you grow my zucchini, and I will grow your flowers. That way we will both be happy.

  3. Your garden looks awesome Jen! I think you should ask the zucchini what the heck is wrong with him that he doesn't grow in your garden, not wonder why you can't get a zucchini to grow! :-P

  4. Fern, thank you! I shall go straight out to the garden to have a firm talk with any remaining zucchini's about my "growing difficulties". Maybe the threat of shredded zucchini bread will get them to spill the beans....LOL.

  5. My dreams of floating around the garden in a flowing white dress didnt come out right either. Its still just me clumping around it with dirty nails and stompy feet amid more weeds than flowers! Nothing turns out quite how you imagined it, but thats what makes dreams all the better!
