Dear Ann Landers, whats a gardener to do? He loves chickens and crows, I love dragonflies, and pears.
And over the years we have accumulated a few too many of all of them.
It seems that friends and family, upon learning that we adored them, have gone overboard in giving us new and beautiful items to add to our collection.
How can we display everything, and still have room to live? And how do we tell our friends and family that there is no more room? We cannot pear to part with any of the items that we currently have.
Ann, I hope that you can help!
Signed, "Crowwed out of house, and home."
OK readers, today, you are Ann Landers, what do we do? Do you have a solution?
uh oh tough one!
ReplyDeletecan you store some of them and rotate them in and out of display?
(I'm having a few problems with my computer today...I apologize if this is a duplicate post)
ReplyDeleteGifts, if genuinely given, are tokens of appreciation and expressions of love.
I think the only gracious thing to do is smile and say "Thank you".
What you do with it once it's yours is entirely at your discretion.
Everyone knows how good it feels to give a gift. However, in order to be a Giver, there has to be a Receiver. So, in receiving you are, in turn, giving a gift.
Bekah, our closets are overflowing already, but it is a really good idea.
ReplyDeleteCarolynn, that is lovely. But I was not really complaining about the beautiful gifts that we were given, although I wrote this post in a humorous light, I sometimes forget that the emotions don't come across the same way, as the voice in my head reads it. We do appreciate and cherish what we are given, and I am definitely not the kind of person who would get rid of/or give away something that has been given to me. Unfortunately we do not have infinte space. So some sort of compromise must be reached.
Or....we might have to rent a storage locker.
Jen
Dear Mismatched,
ReplyDeleteThe easy solution of course would be to place all dragonflies next to the crows and chickens. Once that food supply is depleted, the crows would then be eyeing the chickens. Now that you are left with only the pears as a food source, the crows would become vegetarian and take care of that problem. Now for the crows. One of you will have to form a liking for hawks. Just one should do the trick. Hope this helps with your dilemma.
Ann
Flydragon, that is the perfect solution! And I am starting to become rather fond of hawks........
ReplyDeleteFunny, I read it out to my GA and we were both laughing out loud.

What I do with all my stuff that I have too many of..........I store in my hutch and every so often rearrange and pull some things out and put some away. Refreshes the look and you always have your momentos that dear friends gave you;)
ReplyDeleteDer da! I just realized I said the same thing as bekah! Sorry;(
ReplyDeleteDear Muddy Boot, Can you recycle any of your beloved items into your garden?
ReplyDeletePut beautiful string on some of the treasures and use them on your Christmas Tree?
Boxes, I like pretty boxes, small, large, hat boxes, trunks..hides and organizes for me when my collections become too much.
ALAS there is always storage! :)
I guess Ann L. must have visited. ha. The idea of rotational decorating is a good one. (I'm guilty of purchasing "theme" items from time-to-time for my daughter. Hope it's not a problem!) ;-)
ReplyDeletethat first chicken? it's great. don't get rid of it.
ReplyDeletei think you need to winnow down. pick three of each that you like, and display them. put the others away. and like bekah says, rotate them out. just because you have them doesn't mean they all have to be on constant display.
and then give your friends a moratorium on chicken-dragonfly-pear gifts.
