I overheard a coworker jokingly asking someone today if their whine was a Red or a White?
More than likely they were discussing the snow troubles we have been having lately.
For the first time in over 40 years, it was a virtually white Christmas all across Canada. We are talking the hard to shovel, wet and soppy white stuff here. I did hear about a few, bare spots, but they were merely tears in the big white downy quilt, that was covering the land of ice and snow.

OHHHHHH Canada! Our home and snowy land! What have you done to us? Especially us on the West Coast?
There is not a snow shovel or ice scraper to be found. De-Icer was a staple in Christmas stocking stuffers, and snow chains are the new "it" fashion item.
Neighbour helping neighbour, sharing driveway clearing duty. Everyone joyfully disclaiming the weather, sharing their horror stories about the commute. Stores are running out of gloves, toques, and toboggans, while giddy shoppers stock up.
Kids are laughing, as happy parents spend snowy days slipping and sliding with them. More people are getting their exercise walking to the stores, since their cars are buried under white marshmallow mounds of snow.

Oh Canada! We might not be able to get around as easily as we are used to, but this might just be the reprieve we need from all the doom and gloom on the news. There seems to be a little bit less of recession, and a whole lot more about the good deeds that people are doing for each other. It is allowing us to show our indomitable Canadian spirit.
And that might just be a really good thing.
Morning Jen, Such a pretty sight and as you point out neighbors are helping one another and people are forced to walk a little more. Just rain and fog in GA today. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteLovely post! I heartily agree: snow does uplift the spirits and make us feel cheerful. It helps us recapture some of the sparkle of childhood, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteWe must admit that coming from White Rock with it's over 18 inches of snow, to Vancouver on Christmas Day, with it's only 6 inches of snow, left us perplexed over road closures, and dire warnings.
ReplyDeleteThe news media was using words like, paralysed, stranded, devastated. Airports were closed for Christmas Eve, and passengers stranded.
But there were many, many, goood deeds done that day.
Jen
Wow, that looks like what we usually have around here this time of year. But not today. As I type this at 11:00 this morning it is 62` and climbing. Things certainly are a little screwy.
ReplyDeleteI'll all be over soon enough and you will all be better for it!! A little reminder of Mother Nature every now and then is a good kick-starter! Hang in there and enjoy the relaxation style of your house guest!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen
ReplyDeleteYes you have got a lot of snow but I´m used to it. I like the snow but it must be cold, not wet and soppy.
I´ll wish you and your family A Happy New Year.

Jen .. today and yesterday actually we have RAIN and plus 5 on the thermometer .. now this is not our weather this time of year .. so my theory is Mother Nature mixed up our two provinces .. we have been bamboozled girl !! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh My, you were blessed with snow, maybe all the snow prayers for a White Christmas were answered all at once! I think you should keep some for just a little while! I hope your condo association comes to their senses with the cat rule! I do understand your position! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, I love it when things shut down, for just a little while! We've had just a couple of big storms over the years, where everything literally 'stopped'. We had to walk to the grocery store, pulling our daughter on a sled! Cars couldn't move, so the roads were clear, and silent. It is a nice reprieve:) Of course, you will hope that fairly soon the roads will be cleared and you will be able to get on with the business of life, but for now, enjoy the moment!! Jan
ReplyDeleteWe are out of snow removal stuff here, too. Our part of the world is really getting blessed with the white stuff! Wow.
ReplyDeleteAmen to the indomitable Canadian spirit!
ReplyDeleteBTW....this line...."they were merely tears in the big white downy quilt, that was covering the land of ice and snow." Nothing short of poetic.
