Campbell Valley Park - A return

I love Campbell Valley Park, but I have not been back there for over two years. A gorgeous gem of natural habitat, ducks, paths, happy dog walkers, and horse trails meandering through streams, meadows, and forests. A stunning photo op around every corner. I did not have such bucolic memories of my last visit there.
Flowerishious and I decided to visit the popular park during a sunny spring day. It was only when we arrived back at my car, that we realized thieves had ransacked the inside, searching for something, and obtaining ......... nothing. They took nothing but, my confidence, my realization that even without valuables in my car, they would still break in, just because they could.
I was later told, that since my car was a older model it would always be a target, and that Campbell Valley park was a high break in occurrence.
I have not been back since, but Gar and I decided it was time to return to the scene of the crime so to speak, and take our chances. We were rather relieved to find my vehicle intact, when we returned from our walk. With Gar joking that it was too cold for thieves to hide in the bushes. We had a wonderful, if very chilly return, feeding the birds, and photographing all sorts of subjects. And the good memories of those little birds lighting on my hand even as I held the camera, have replaced the bad ones of my car.

  2. Gosh! That feeling of being violated is terrible. Glad you went back. If you want a story about feeling violated, (not to take away anything from your experience by any means) just fresh on my mind right now. Come to my blog look at my archive list and click on "more important that gardening."

  3. Love the bird pictures, they are sooo adorable.
Glad you now have happy memories, kind of like getting thrown from a horse, get back on to rid yourself of the fear.

  4. Sometimes it is difficult to return to the scene of the crime, but once it has been done... You are empowered. Your photos are gorgeous and brightened my day.

  5. Those are the cutest little fellows and friendly too!

I've heard the opposite...newer cars are targets. I don't think there really is a rule other than 'opportunity' presenting itself to someone so inclined. I'm glad to hear you had a better experience this time. The feathered ambassadors seem to have been out to welcome you in full force.

  9. Hi Jen, what enchantment is created by the birds landing on your hands! That is too wonderful and even overrides the badness, I hope. Our car was broken into in Memphis, the windows bashed and the stereo smashed when they couldn't get it out of the dash. I never want to go back, quite honestly. But those birds are so sweet....I am glad you went back and had a good vibe this time to replace the last. :-)Frances

  13. The chickadees were so trusting, I think they no longer have a fear of humans because they are being fed everyday by kind and caring people. It was enchanting, that is a great word for the feeling.

I would like to encourage everyone to click on Darla's comment up there, check out her post. What happened to her son and his friends is horrible, how can anyone do such a thing?

But on a lighter note, thank you everyone for your kind comments.

    Jen

By the way, that is Gar's hand, not mine. I could not get a photo of the bird sitting on my camera hand, but it would have been so cute.

  16. HI, Thank you for the comment encouraging bloggers to read about my son's experience. I get tears everytime I read about it or think about it. Your sister visited me and left a nice comment. Sounds as if she has a lot of land and a lot going on, would be fun if she blogged, could probably learn a few things from her.

  18. So adorable! How thrilling to have a chickadee land on your hand. I'm assuming it is a chickadee, am I right? Ours are only black and white...haven't seen the brown before.

I'm glad this trip to the park was a positive one!

I use a Shark Steamer, hand held, I got it at Target, it takes care of messy things quite fast. Cleans and sanitizes! :)

I'm not a violent person, but sometimes I would like to.............

Love the little chickadees you have over/up there. Love the little chickadees we have over/down here, too:) I was lucky enough to have one land on my hand too, once. I stuck my hand out my window with a sunflower seed on it and he flew right down and took it. Made me smile for a week:)
