My spell check needs to learn latin

Do you think that there is a spell check that understands Latin?
Is there a program out there that I can type in Philadelphus coronarius 'Aureus', and have the correct spelling the first time? Without resorting to googling it every time? It is bad enough that my spell check only speaks American, not Canadian eh? Colour becomes color, centre becomes center. My pre published posts are full of little red error lines throughout. Very distracting when you are trying to proof read a post. Worse if you are a potentially poor speller. Like me. Maybe I should just send my computer back to school, Latin 101. More than likely it would come back with a attitude. I can hear it now..... That is not how you spell Philadelphus.
Redo it.

  2. One thing about it, I won't know if you spell the Latin names wrong! Such a pretty collage on your post today.

  3. Jen, were you reading my mind! I find spelling difficult but without spell checkers I couldn't do the job I do now. Neither myself or my teachers would have ever expected me to end up in an office! But being able to remember the pronunciation of the words I write is another thing altogether.

    Best wishes Sylvia (England)

  4. Ha, I'm still looking for a spell check that understands English. Many times I type a word knowing it is mis-spelled and spell check just ignores it.

Love your collage today even though your boots are snowy instead of muddy:)

  5. So true! Wordpress and Blogger won't accept British spelling either!

  6. Oh gosh.. I'll try again. My last comment disappeared.

Blogger and Wordpress do not like British spelling either!

  7. Darla, and Mildred, thanks so much. I really do appreciate all of you commenting, and all the encouragement that you give.

Sylvia, this has been in the back of my mind for a little while. Funny how we come to the same conclusion.

Flydragon, thank goodness those snowy boots are now just a memory.
    I know, we are whimps.

Lady Fi, I think a lot of our spelling is based on British spelling also. Sillly blogger, I was having some problems this morning with it also.

  8. There probably IS something out there in techy land. There seems to be a solution for every little question in the world on the internet...if we could only figure out how to find and use it. As usual the photos are wonderful.

  9. Hi Jen!

I feel your pain. It's not a built-in spell check exactly, but I use the RHS plantfinder to verify any Latin plant names. The editor at a magazine I freelance for recommended it; it's fairly accurate.

  10. Great collage! Very nice! Eh or A? Which is right? Have you heard that joke..when your people up there named your country C.. A.. N..A D.. A ? or is it C eh..N eh..D eh?
The latin words drive me nuts too but I can add them to my checker..that is if I have spelled them correctly. Some times my brain just does not work:)

  11. Jen:
OMG.... how true it is! I end up keeping the RHS Plant Finder next to the computer! Of course it doesn't help when I choose plants with names like Peltoboykinia watanabei for a post!!!??? ( A wicked self fufilling prophecy sometimes!) Great post. Needed a laugh after waking up to snow squalls this morning!

  12. I would not know if you spelled it wrong either.
The old saying "use it or lose it", well I do use my brain but I am still losing it. Some days I cannot spell the simplest word and I get really aggravated, so spell check some days justs shows me how much I am forgetting :) It's not looking good and my dictionary is getting a work out.

  13. I agree it is so distracting trying to figure out if I misspelled a word or if it's just not recognized. I really like your collage with the cute kitty face in the middle.

  14. LOL! Yes, it would probably come back with an attitude... and an upper-crusty accent that you wouldn't be able to stand.

I LOVE the mosaic! The purple is gorgeous and it pulls all the photos together so beautifully!

    Hugs,
    Cindy

  15. I've been slowwwwwwwly teaching my spellcheck to speak Latin and Greek, but it's an ongoing challenge. That's an awesome collage with one incredibly cute neighbourhood cat in the middle.

  16. Jen, those flower shots are so detailed! Really good! Like the collage too. I think I remember running across a Latin spell check when I was studying medical transcription- I'll see what I can find out...great idea!

  17. when I was in third grade my teacher called me a brat because I corrected her when she said 'colour' was the WRONG way to spell that word. I told her that it was not wrong, that is how it is spelled in other countries. She ACTUALLY called me a brat in front of our whole class. I know, that story is completely irrelevant to most of your post, but reading you write 'colour' correctly made me feel very vindicated! thank you! haha

  18. Bekah you are back!!! You "brat" LOL. Good for you for speaking up and saying what you knew was right.

Funny how those moments will be etched onto our memories forever. Thank goodness the good moments stay also.
