Wanted: Gardening Fairy

I have decided after the fourth day of trying to clean up my deck, that all I really needed was a gardening fairy.
I need to go from this.......
I should have advertised for one, imagine how much easier it would have been then. She could have interviewed, shown her credentials, been hired, and waved her magic wand. Instantly the entire deck of 250+ pots would have been transplanted, cleaned up, trimmed back, watered, and ready for spring.
To this!
Unfortunately life doesn't work that way. So it has been me, who is transplanting, trimming, moving, or should I say heaving pots around. Sweeping, washing, tiding and cleaning. There is literally no end to it. And to top it all off, I am only halfway. I don't remember it being this hard last year, but then again, maybe last year I hired superman to come out and help.

  1. Makes my muscles ache just to hear about all that work! It will all be so pretty though.

  2. Hey Jen,

If you do hire one- can you send her my way after she's done with you deck? I could use a little magic!

  4. I'm looking forward to doing all that kind of work. Now a garden fairy to pickup & spread the woodchip mulch, that I could use.

  5. OMGOSH! You inspire me! If you can do all THAT, surely I could make myself accomplish SOMEthing in that desperately neglected backyard of mine. Loved the photos, too!

And THANK YOU for your very generous words and kindness to me and for signing up to FOLLOW! Welcome and glad we get to hang out together. Maybe I WILL actually do something in the yard! :)

  7. 250+ pots - ye gods Jen, are you Wonderwoman or what? and how big is your deck?!
Bet it'll look great when you've done though!

  8. Well you are another year older than last year! But I suspect it is a labor of love for you, and soon you will have turned your patio into an osasis that we will all envy! One pot at a time! :)

  9. Tessa, I will be sure to send her your way. If I can find her.

Mildred, it is pretty, not very much room on the deck after everything grows but.....

Lady Fi, Gar will give me all the help I need, but he was at work during those days.

    MMD, it would be nice!

Robynn, I am so looking forward to reading your posts. You are a wonderful writer.

Nutty Gnome, actually my deck is about 30 -40 feet long, and 10 feet wide. Somedays that is way too big, and others not big enough.

Far Side, one pot at a time, thats what I keep telling myself. Aching arms, and sore back.

  10. With 250 pots, you are quite the pot head. I don't have garden fairy help. I like to do it all myself so that I know it's getting done right. I don't think they can be trusted. Although I think their dust makes good fertilizer.

  11. I guess I won't complain about the few pots I use on my little balcony. :) Great work, though -- the payoff will come.

  13. Hello Jen

That's a lot of deck. Mind you, it all looks lovely, Hostas and Ferns etc. Is that a Geranium in the bottom left corner?

  15. If that is what your deck looks like in the spring all that hard work is worth it. It's so beautiful and inviting.

  17. Jen~ there ARE Garden Faeries! You just need to plant the right things!
    ~ Some of these are:
Foxgloves, Faeries like to make their clothing from them. Ferns these make nice soft beds for the little guys.
Apple and or Oak trees Faeries often inhabit these trees.
The oak is held sacred by many of them. Tulips, the faeries like to use the tulip bloom to put their babies to bed.
Rosemary, heartsease, forget-me-nots are some others.
    These are only a few.
You can also build a little faery house from twigs, stones, crystals or other items found in nature. Put a crystal on the house to attract
the faeries to it. Place it in your garden and soon a faery may make it home. Faeries are attracted to bright and beautiful things.
Oh and very important, if you want to keep the wee folk around keep the cat out of the garden!
    Does this help??..wink..
Maybe next year you'll have more faeries than you can handle!

  18. I don't even know where to start with my deck. It's boring and blah!

  19. Now there is a reason for living where there will still be snow on the ground in April. But, then gardening, in my mind, is more fun than shoveling snow...at least after six or so months of it. Am looking forward to more of your photos of blossoms to chase away winter blah.

  20. That's a lot of work, but OH so many beautiful plants!!!! Looks like nursery!!!

  21. Jim, I think that I have never been called a "pot head", LOL. But this is BC, home and capital of the best bud. I know that you meant containers, but I could not resist.

Nancy, I started with just one container.......

Kim, I do have over 250 containers, and yes it did start out with just one, things have kind of gotten out of hand lately.

Rob, if I remember correctly that is a type of low growing perennial called....I found it. Erodium. Gorgeous, small pink flowers, grey green leaves, I heartedly recommend it. I have used it in perennial hanging baskets, in containers, and planters. It is a great performer.

Sassy Dog, that lovely pink in the background is the Rhodo blooming. About the only time of year that I really appreciate the giant looming thing. It totally shines for 2 weeks each year. The rest of the time it just sulks.

Susie, yes this is my deck, I would say that the color picks are from about mid May. After that everything tends to take over, and there is just a little room for me.

Tatersmama, you have no idea how much I am looking forward to reading your hillarious posts. Karaoke with the church paster!

Barb, all fairy gardening tips duly noted. I will go out and look for the appropriate items that are required.

Gardeness, my deck was beige, at least when I started. You just start with a few containers, and then you add to it, as the fever hits.

Leenie, can you believe that we want to move up country to where there will be snow until April? Are we nuts? I have been wondering about it lately.

Darla, I think that over the years I have brought home enough plants to make my own nursery. Anyone want to buy a plant?

  22. What a gorgeous plethora of plants and pots you have on your deck. I would be in heaven sitting there. Of course, I know that it doesn't seem like heaven when you're having to do all the maintenance, but I have to tell you that your hard work is most evident and really shows!

    Hugs,
    Cindy
