Flirting with Picasa

There is a magazine cover of a lush living room out on news's stands right now. Lovely chartreuse green walls, white couch, white distressed furniture, hot pink and lime cushions. Spring, fresh, fun, flirty. And I want to redecorate my living room like it. Think colors like dewy maiden hair ferns, and hot pink cyclamen. Maybe with some white double begonias thrown in. And I want it. And that is so not going to be my living room. There is no way that Gar would be happy in something feminine and flirty. He's such a guy. I am such a girl. So how do I fulfil my inner paint can, my flirtier side, without constantly redecorating? I play with Picasa collages. There I can live in saturated color, mix, and match, blend and play. I can combine chartreuse with magenta pink, and antique white, something I just can't or won't do in my own place.
And if something turns out really well, then I can always make a greeting card out of it. It certainly is cheaper than redecorating.

  1. I love the collage tool on Picasa.
However the ones I do don't look anything like yours. Well done as usual.

  2. Very pretty indeed. With those bones in a room, the mood enhancing green walls and crisp defining woodwork, so many colors could be tossed around on cushions and throws that the room couldn't help but appeal to everyone. but then I'm a color freak. Dirt has slowly broken out of his box of eight crayons.

Your collages are nicely put together.

  3. I love the pink and green colors together!

It is so much fun to put a collage together. It's much easier to do with Picasa than Adobe.

  4. beautiful photos and very fun.
I too would love a really feminine room someday, somewhere in the house, with a little shabby chic crystal chandelier and any color(s) that suits my whim at the time

  6. Jen, The posters blown to full screen size are fantastic. Spectacular! I love your photographs...and now that I have my camera back I can get out side and practice manual shooting! I want to learn more about picasa and playing around with it! But, I don't want to make my albums public! Do you keep your albums private?

  7. I love your collages because when I look at your individual prints, I have trouble choosing just a few!

  8. I hear your dilemma. There are ways to bring elements of your dream living room into your space without driving Gar out of it.

You could create a tableau that's confined to a tabletop where you can rest your eyes from time to time and fill your field of vision with the colours you desire.

Or, you could create this palette in your garden, set up a table & chair and surround yourself with the scents, as well as the visual appeal of those colours.

There have been many magazine images that I'd love to recreate in my home...alas, I have only one living room and very few funds to be changing my entire decor every month.

Now that spring has finally arrived, I'm feeling that redecorating urge again...uh oh. Hide the paint brushes!!

  9. Jen - I have wildly differing decorating inspirations so my bathroom, bedroom, living room etc. are all decorated differently and I get to enjoy them all. Perhaps you have a bathroom or a spare room you can decorate in your dream colors that Gar wouldn't mind?

  11. Someday when you move to the boonies you need a room that is just "you". I can see it in my minds eye, all green and pink and white..a restful spot!
I like to fool around with my scrapbook program..I love that I can pop things in and out on a whim...and be creative:)

  14. Aww, you need your own personal room/space that Gar wouldnt want to go into that you could go crazy decorating how ever you wanted to.

Well, until you get that, these collages are very beautiful. That is a fun way to play around with colors and textures.

  20. These are absolutely glorious, Jen. The blue ones are especially wonderful. I don't know how to play with Picasa, though I keep saying one of these days I will learn to do so. Seeing your wonderful collages inspire me to do so sooner than later.

  24. And you are so good at it--extremely talented at arranging and playing with color. I do understand at the guy vs. girl thing. I too would flirt with more color. I might do that in my guest-room. Your collages are stunning.
