Petunias and Power washing

There are, or there should be few phrases in a gardeners world that truly strike fear into their hearts. Infestation of aphids might be one, that and early blight would be another. But being told, "we are just going to do a little power washing around the building" should strike terror into the strongest of gardeners hearts. There is nothing like a little power washing, it is all or nothing, everything swept away, vines broken, flowers beheaded, soil dumped. And when Council mentioned that they were planning on doing a little power washing around the building, I was worried. It's the peak of summer, I have the nicest pink petunias, and my hosta's did I mention that my hosta's are really, really, nice this year? I was sure they wanted to power wash them, of course they said they wanted to power wash the building, but I knew that it would end up being my hosta's that were power washed. After many negotiations, "break anything and......," we came to a compromise. Gar would be the one who cleaned around our area. He did a great job, and never broke anything. Now the building is nice and clean. And did I mention that my hosta's are really nice this year?

  1. I wish I had planted more pink petunias. I will next year. So glad none of your plants were broken. That can be so sad.

  6. Ha! Aphids...little buggers. ;o)

I don't know about your hostas, but those petunias sure look pretty. I'm glad you were able to negotiate a compromise and work out a win-win arrangement.

    Happy Friday!

  9. This pink petunia, is a supertunia. It is called Bermuda Beach, and it is.

Buy this color next year, even if like me you don't normally go for pink. Beautiful, and now thankfully still intact.

Gar told them they would suffer the wrath of Jen, now really.......

  11. Haha - I misread the blog title as 'Petunias and Washing Powder' and thought you'd come up with a new way to get rid of aphids!!!

I feel a bit daft now, but at least your hostas are looking lovely! :)

  13. OMG I so agree about the power washing. We usually do it in the early spring before things come up, but this year we didn't and now hubby wants to power wash our deck. I told him no way - he has to wait until fall now. -Jackie

  16. We go through this every year when my husband finally decides it will be power washing time and my plants are in full bloom. He will not like where the hose goes next time he suggests this.

  17. LOL... I am not the only one who threatens or acts "crazily" when the garden plants are threatened. In my case, my landscaping gets destroyed by contractors... their big feet and ginormous tools and machines.
