Dancing in the dark.

I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love....... And I am sure the neighbors and Bootsie were wondering what was going on last night as I danced among the towering sunflowers on my deck, calling out to Gar. Gar! Come and see, come and look. Then when he left the golden sanctuary of his favorite chair, and ventured out onto the deck, he would check my LCD screen of my camera. Saying, wow, it is really interesting how that works isn't it? It was dark enough to have difficulty seeing, and normally that is when my camera shuts down. My main telephoto lens is just not a good shot in the dark. But this new lens, my new baby, my 50mm 1:1.4 is amazing. A night owl, cats eyes, it leaves me dancing in the dark. Tip toeing from flower to flower, shooting at the moon, and reaching it. It lets in substantially more light, all these shots were taken after the sun had set. But most of them look almost like daylight. I'm in love, and dancing in the dark, with my Gar, among the 7 foot sunflowers. Life is good.

  1. Oh WOW! I'd be dancing too! The results are phenomenal. I love the soft bokeh lights you're getting in the background and the warmth. So beautiful.

  4. Oooo, I want a lens like that!! I have a macro lens on the top of my wish list but a lens which allows me to photograph at night would be great also, my lens I have now is like your old one, it shuts down at sun down...

These shots were wonderful!! Full of character, even in the dying sunflowers..

  14. Most impressive, although I am now wondering what else you may start photographing in the dark (are your neighbours getting nervous?).

Also it makes me feel woefully inadequate as I have one lens to my camera and it now has a nasty tendency to drop out at inappropriate moments since it was dropped during a slightly disastrous visit to a French zoo last year...

  17. Wow, you have been busy whilst I've been swanning round France (and visiting Rob!) on my holidays - looks like I've missed out on quite a bit of stuff and your new lens is great. It lets you take even better photos! :)

  18. Congrats on the new lens! Very nice shots!

You'd asked at my blog (thanks for visiting!)...I have a Sony a350 SLR with a 300mm macro lens that I use for my wildlife photos...I mainly use a Fuji FinePix A900 point-and-shot digital camera for my botany photos. I'm figuring out taking photos of the larger, taller wildflowers w/ the SLR.

  21. OK I have lense envy! Of course I wouldn't swap my 18-200mm Nikon for all the tea in china... but a 1.4 50mm. Mmmmmm.
