Spend these days lavishly

Spend these last glorious golden days lavishly. Squander them, spread them as far as they will go. Eke out every last drop, memorizing, and absorbing the sunlight as it sprinkles through leaves, the crisp tartness in the air like the first bite of a fall apple. Relish the colors that are created by the cooler nights, the warmth of the day, making flowers sparkle, even as they droop. Spend these days, for soon they will be nothing more than a faded tan, and a memory. Fall has come, leaves will drop, rain will be our constant worry, but for now, scoop up arm fulls of the first day of Autumn. Revel in warm toes. Celebrate and spend lavishly.

  1. I couldn't agree with you more and, in fact, it's what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks. Most of the summer was too hot and/or humid to really enjoy it -- I've been lighting candles on the balcony at night and savouring each mild evening we're given. It will all be gone soon enough. Great post.

  4. Well said. Isn't it interesting that the most beautiful time of a garden's life is just before the freeze? It almost seems as if Mother Nature gives us the greatest beauty just before we enter the drearier days of winter.

    Anyway, your posting is wonderful.

  5. So beautifully written and what a glorious photo of leaves in their glory. The air is not yet crisp, but for the first time I noticed the darkness and fallen leaves.

  6. What beautiful sentiments Jen. Our rainfall has stopped briefly and we are seeing some sun. The leaves should be gorgeous this fall.

  13. Jen .. I truly hope to do exactly that girl !!
I am a little jittery thinking this may be one of those wet Autumns that are whooshed away before we see the colorful ballgowns the trees dress in .. we shall see ? Camera at hand though ! LOL

  14. Gorgeous photos, lovely sentiments to go along with it. I am definitely taking advantage of our cooler Fall weather, esp since I am in-between jobs at the moment. Hopefully not for too long...

  15. Isn't it so true? Fall will be over before we know it, and here in the northwest the big fluffy down quilt of grey will be pulled across our skies, cozying us down into winter hybernation.
