A day in the life of a blogger

Ever wonder what goes through a bloggers mind, how they resolve the issues of coming up with new and interesting blog posts for their readers? What spurs them onward, what inspires them? Our journey starts here:
3:00 am - Wake up, start to visualize the next post for your blog. Fall asleep. 4:30 am - Wake up feeling a sense of dread, what will you write about? 5:00 am - Wake up again. Plan in your head the most interesting and visual blog post you have ever written. The eloquence of the phrases makes your heart soar, this is sheer poetry. The best post you have ever been inspired to write. Fall asleep again, dreaming of comments, and happy readers. 6:05 am - Wake up.....again. Realize that you can't recall any of the subject matter of the imagined post. Nor can you recall any of the words, phrases, or photos that you had thought to use. 6:17 am - Pull yourself out of bed, because there is a scratching noise at the patio door. 6:18 am - Open the curtains to reveal a unhappy and impatient cat called Bootsie waiting outside. He looks so cute with his black fur, and snow flakes speckling him, that you tell him to "hold that pose" and run to get your camera. 6:19 am - Bootsie scratches at the glass door as you madly click away. Wondering if the neighbors think that you are just a crazy photographer, or a very cruel person who won't even let stray cats in during a snowstorm. 6:21 am - Wonder what you are going to write about today? 9:15 am - Mention blogging to a colleague, and see a blank look on their face. Wonder what you are going to write about today? 12:17 pm - During a conversation with a customer realize that you have discovered what you are going to write about. Mark it down on a piece of paper and shove it in your pocket. 5:48 pm - Come home, cook dinner, do laundry. Wonder what you should blog about for the next day? Oh right, there was something written on a piece of paper, you put it in your pocket....... oh no. Fish pants out of washer, too late. Wonder what you are going to blog about tomorrow?
My apologies for the word verification. It will only be up for a few days. I am having terrible trouble with spammers, and this has already cut it in half.

  1. As soon as my head hits the pillow I usually come up with something. I will either get up and right it down or plan it all out there. Then in the morning, not remember a bit of it. I am convinced that my good writing happens when I have no pen or paper.

  2. Oh yes! I have done the "wake up in the middle of the night and tell myself to remember for the blog" routine. Never remember beans about it the next day. Except the fact that you were supposed to remember it in detail and can't quite latch onto one. We hold our animals hostage. "Don't you move one inch now!" Retrieve the camera. Come back. They've moved. Ah, life goes on and another photo op will eventually come.

  3. LOL! So funny. So true. I've been stuck in the wondering phase a lot lately.

I also look at everything I see and frame it in my mind to see if it would make an interesting photo, too. I KNOW you do that. There's a tree I want to photograph, but it's right on a busy 4 lane road. I haven't screwed up the courage to go there & photograph it for fear I'll look like a loony toon. It's been 3 years now that I've admired that tree every time I drive by it.....hmmmm....I may have just come up with a blog post.

  4. I'm glad to know I'm not alone forgetting my post ideas!!! That Bootsie - waking you up! For Georgia, it was cold (in the 20's this a.m.) and I awoke with all 3 cats cuddling close to me!
    Pretty pictures today Jen.

  6. Your post is wonderful! And so true for most of us. I sometimes feel like I'm letting everyone down by posting about family, but then I get messages that someone out there likes what I have posted. Life goes on. Good luck with the spam. I always felt that Google was a safe haven but perhaps not.

  7. OMG! I am not the only one! I was struggling with a subject, up until yesterday when I realized that the male of the species, and especially when we decide a week before that it is time to start holiday shopping..... surely there is enough material for posts..... well it could be the subject of a blog all on its own! Drop by if you have a chance.... I am currently fine tuning one that deals with the dreaded Post office this time of year.....

  8. No wonder my blog posts are so shallow...guess I should think about it more instead of just waiting until something happens...

  10. It doesn't count if we write about our blog friend who can't come up with something to write about does it? No I didn't really think so.

  11. LOL! We all have done this. Especially in the winter months we rack our minds.

  14. I loved this post. So true about waking up thinking about a post or taking pictures of the dog looking at me like I'm crazy. Thanks for a good laugh, I needed one after the last two days!

  15. I can relate. Had one of those nights just last night. Up at 3:30 and on the computer. There's something wrong with this picture, you know ...

  16. I need to prepare posts well in advance and usually have 3-4 preposted. Ideas pop up and I can usually jot them down, but if during the night I think them out then forget them.

  17. When stuck on a post, I take a shower. Works every time. And I take an inordinate number of showers. LOL

Also, I notice that no one is up at 3AM doing laundry.

  20. You are too funny, Jen, the little struggling Bootsie scratching at the door crack my funny bone with laughter! Click click click. HA We normally take a whole bunch of pictures then stare at them for days on end trying to find a post in there. Photo driven. The occasional brilliant idea (without photos) gets puts as a draft of words, never to be touched again. :-)

  23. What a droll post! I try to have tomorrow's post ready when I go to bed so I don't have to wake and ponder. The best ideas seem to come when you're not trying so hard, usually from reader comments.

  24. Hello Jen,

I love your post of the progress or lack of writing a blog post. I chuckle because I recognize myself. For some reason, the simple posts I write when I have writer's block somehow turn out to be the most popular ones...

  25. hihihi, all those great posts are comming up when I havn't got a chanse to write them down. Driving in my car, in the store, in bed at night and so on. Isn't it amazing? And where do the go when weare abel to put them down in words not just thoughts?

  26. Oh, this was so funny Jen! I do seem to have great insights at night whilst in bed, then forget them by the morning. I have a very bad habit of never writing down any of my ideas, which means I often forget many of them. Oh, that reminds me of another idea....

  27. Okay, so I'm not the ONLY one! I feel your pain. Most times I figure I'm so boring, there's nothing to write about!

  28. Love this post and so very true!! I can never remember that "brilliant" idea I had for a post right before I fell asleep. So glad I'm not alone in my angst.
