February, that month that although short, is so hard for gardeners. This year for us however it is a little different. Spring has moved in and looks like she is making herself at home. Turn the page quickly for us Spring, we can hardly wait for April.
This is the February page of the calendar that I made for my Mom and Dad.
Since they live where it is much colder, and spring takes her time to arrive, I thought that they needed a little splash of pink.
I used Picasa to make the collages for the calendars, and if you are a Picasa user, and you regularly use that program, I would like to pass on a little info to you, that might save you a huge headache.
I was told by my very reliable photofinishing lab that Picasa saves all of your files in a thumbnail size. This won’t be a problem unless you are enlarging the image, and then the loss of resolution will just blow you away.
So if you have any plans on enlarging your images, maybe using them in a calendar, or a enlargement, don’t use Picasa for this. Other than that, it is a great program. I love it’s simplicity for blogging.
I also heard a story about a customer who had saved everything to CD’s using Picasa, and then deleted the memory card. She was devastated to find out that her images were practically useless.
Sad to learn from someone else’s mistakes, but good information to have.
Jen
Thank you for brightening my day with these pretty pink images. So very beautiful Jen.
ReplyDeleteYour collage is beautiful. I do love pink in a garden. It's such a happy color. We are starting to have some warmer (50 degree) days now, but spring is still a ways off for Colorado. Good to have that information about Picassa -- didn't know any of it ... yikes!
ReplyDeleteDear Jen, Your picture collage is certainly a bright and cheerful posting for this time of year and I am sure a very welcome gift for your parents.
ReplyDeleteOooohhhhh....how pretty! My birthday is February 14 and I'll be...cough, cough...29 AGAIN! (NOT!)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your sunflower photo! I need to go out and get some of mine, but it is raining here again!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so amazing. I'll bet your parents loved the calendar...thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend ~Natalie
Thanks for the information, I use and love picassa...but I also have my photos saved under documents on my computer- so they are saved twice..I know I am using a lot of room on my computer but I'm not that "smart" when it comes to the computer and when I download the photos they automatically store under documents but when I open picassa they are loaded there also..I don't complain! hahaha! But thanks for the FYI...I'd never know that!
ReplyDeleteGood information, indeed! Thanks for the tip, Jen.
ReplyDeleteThe photo collage is gorgeous - a wonderful collection of forms and textures with a very nice overall colour theme.
I love the heart in the right corner. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteI do use Picasa, Jen, thanks for the info. That could be such a loss to someone. Your page is beautiful though. It would brighten the darkest February day, though it looks like we get sunshine today again. B.C. rocks, and so do your photos.
ReplyDeleteIt's cold and snowy here - a kind of monochrome world, so it's LOVELY to see bright splashes of pink! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely photo for February--brightens the spirit and reminds us of love's importance too. Great information about Picasa, Jen, because it's a program that many use and don't know much about. I use iPhoto for my main photo storage, and only use Picasa to play with for my blog. I lost a year's worth of files in an external harddrive glitch a couple years ago, so I'm particularly leery of losses.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info about Picasa. I do love using it for blogging, but will stick to Photoshop for saving photos. Your pink February flowers are so beautiful. I am sure your parents are appreciating them right now :^)
What a beautiful collage Jen. I use some of my pictures with picasa so thanks for the heads up. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Pink Montage Jen! Yes we should all back up images on a couple of drives and also on a dvd. You cannot be too careful... keep one drive in a different place or maybe the dvd's in a safety deposit box... I have not gotten there but know I should! I am lapsing on the dvds and have not checked into the bank box yet! I love how the pink in your heart mirrors your beautiful blooms. ;>) Carol
ReplyDeleteSweet page for February.
ReplyDeletePink is such a happy colour - perfect for February! Nice gift for your parents :)
ReplyDeleteUsualy don't upload pics so Picasa is not a problem. Then again I'm not as creative as you.
ReplyDeleteLove the February collage....very sweet.
The pinks are so luscious and beautiful! I'm sure your parents will love it. I would!

Me again. I was just reading your post below this one. I was going to put this comment on there, as it is addressing your problem with Blogger. But I didn't know if you'd see it on that post, so I'm putting it here (Also, do you have an email address on here anywhere?) I had a problem with my Gadgets and Blogger and finally figured out it was my browser. Seems there is a problem with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox and Blogger when moving Gadgets. I love Firefox for its speed. But when I want to add Gadgets, I switch over to IE. Yet I have some Blogger problems with IE, which made my posts disappear for about 24 hours two weeks ago. Finally figured out IE is picky about the size of Gadgets! I know this is long, and I would have emailed this. But I have to do some things with Blogger on IE, others on Firefox. Don't know if this is your problem or not.

This is very good information. I wonder if that's why my pictures don't always look as good on my blog as they do in i photo.
ReplyDeleteSpring definitely seems to have come early here. Beautiful collage!
Thanks for that useful snippet of information Jen :)
ReplyDeleteI love your photogaphs! So beautiful! /Linda from Sweden
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, I am an amateur photographer & also a regular Picassa user. I save an original copy of my photographs n always reduce the size of the photo before posting it in my blog. I save on space but yes do loose out on the quality / resolution. The originals come in handy whenever I need to enlarge a snap or two. Thx for sharing the info....Loved the February pinks on your blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, for years I did "color analysis and makeovers" studies show that wearing pink makes us look friendlier and persons tend to be more receptive to us when we wear pink. Looking at your lovely collage of pink does give such a calming response - lovely
ReplyDeleteJen, Thanks so much for passing along the information about Picasa. I'm a new Picasa user, and this probably saved me some headaches. -Jean
