One really cool thing about spring is the annual return of the Canada Geese.
To our condo rooftop.
These guardians of the gate, so to speak are noisy, nosy, and so, so beautiful. I look forward to seeing them return each spring.
They perch up on top of the roof, right above the front door, and vet each entrant as they approach. With such honking and hissing, you would think that we would be scared to run this gauntlet each time. But there are many people who live here that don’t even notice.
Gar told me to grab the camera one day, saying “here’s a good photo op for you.” The geese would retreat to the middle of the roof if I got too close to them, but as soon as we backed away they would be right back on the edge again.
We tried to tell some of our neighbors who were exiting the condo to look up and see them. “Look up” we would call out, “look up and see the geese.” The neighbors would just stare at us like we were crazy. Totally oblivious to the noisy honking, and hissing right over their heads.
I so look forward to seeing them again, because early morning wakeup calls are so much better with Canada Geese, then seagulls.
Jen
How amazingly wonderful that you get to see them so close at hand.
ReplyDeleteWe heard and saw flocks of them flying over but have never been lucky enough for them to visit.
Great photos.
Jen, You are a good sport! I love these geese too, but would not like being hissed at when trying to go into my home... such guardians I would wish away. Surely they will not stay too long there? They are beauties!! Gar is certainly right about the photo op... Great shots! I would enjoy the wake up call too. Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous to have such visitor's pop in on their way home! That's quite a sight!
ReplyDeleteThey look like real characters, honking down at people from the roof.
ReplyDeleteMigrating geese are always a sight in the sky flying in a great big 'V'
They look so much prettier in your neck of the woods then here! Maybe they are happy to be home and they don't like country music either! Like Rob, I love seeing the v-formation and watching them fly home! gail
ReplyDeleteWe love to see the geese when they fly over.

I'm totally jealous! (I think) They photos are phenomenal. Frame that first one now!

I think they are sayings, "Wake up - it's spring!" :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures! It's funny that some people just don't notice or appreciate a scene like that. They look like they are surveying the scene.
ReplyDeleteWow - that is just fabulous! Your own Canadian geese alarm clocks! I love it...
ReplyDeleteFun pictures - stopping by to wish you a Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteNice snaps! I too remember capturing a similar shot of a peahen hobnobbing on our roof top two summers back. Its exciting to just watch these marvelous beings!
ReplyDeleteGreat captures, ungrateful neighbors I'd say. I look forward to hearing the honk, honk of their arrival as they fly over our home too!
ReplyDeleteI like the cool self-satisfied seagulls congregating for a siesta on the beach, sitting evenly spaced along the rail, or calmly looking over the situation from atop a lamppost. I think they have a good thing going.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I wonder if they have a nest up there they're protecting...
ReplyDeleteIt is most definitely goose poop season in my neighbourhood.
Gorgeous geese! They haven't arrived in our neck-of-the-woods yet. I love their honking too, but they never get very close to the house because we have a brackish water marsh across the street from the house. You don't like seagulls? hehe I do not mind them much. On a nice sunny morning I usually wake up to the sounds of Chickadees, Crows, and Woodpeckers.
ReplyDeleteJen, What fun, I haven't seen any geese up here yet. I love their honking in the sky as they fly overhead.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky are you..to have such beautiful visitors! I saw my first flock the other day..Spring must be here! :)
