Over 10 pairs?

2010 03 15 080

OK, here is a gardening question for you.

How many pairs of garden gloves can you find in your home, right now?

Do they match?  Do you know where they all are?

Do you have any idea where over 10 pairs of mine have gone in the last few years?  Do you believe that I have no idea where they are?

I mean honestly, I have bought over 10 pairs of rather expensive gardening gloves, and I am down to one pair and a single left handed glove.

Where do they go?  Do they go to the same place that mismatched socks disappear to?  The Bermuda Triangle of gardening gloves?

Would the lost garden clippers, and tools be hanging out there also?

If you have the answer, can you tell Amelia Earhart to bring them back, because some folk think that she might be hanging out in the Bermuda Triangle also.

And maybe she collects lost pairs of gardening gloves.

  1. They will turn up in the bottom of a container, the wheelbarrow or buried under that pile of leaves I never cleaned up. I seem to snatch them off and drop them when I here the phone ring, need to snap a photo or a family 'needs' me right now.....

  2. I have 3-1/2 sets thank you and yes I know where each one is. You are so funny. Seems those tools and gloves have feet sometime - we should be watching for them to cross the street.

  3. Lovely post, you sure made me smile.
I'm sorry to say that I don't have that problem at all. I do have a lot of gloves and mostly single left handed onse. But the reason for that is that I mostly use only the right handed glove. And there's ALWAYS a whole in them, that's weard I think!

  4. Mine are all tucked up in a plant pot in the garage. I'm thinking there are about 10 pairs but I do know I finally got rid of some of the really old ones last year. I just got a new pair for my birthday and I'm sure I'll be tempted to buy another pair or two. One can never have too many gardening gloves.

  5. There is a lot of area to garden in Bermuda, she will need them.
I usually start the season with about 100 pairs. No kidding. I buy the plastic surgical gloves from Costco and wear those. I need to feel the tiny little weeds between my fingers so I can yank their stupid little bodies out of the ground.
I only use real gloves if I am shoveling dirt or raking. That is if I can find some.

  6. I have four pairs. Well, actually 3 1/2. I can't find the mate to one...it's probably off partying in Bermuda with your lost gloves...

  7. One can only hope that they are with the lost socks.

  8. I'm pretty sure a few of my gardening gloves are lining the nests of squirrels. Seriously, I wouldn't put it past them. We have some mighty assertive squirrels in our area!

To answer your question, I found one pair last weekend when I did a little gardening. I have a few more pair stashed in our garage -- somewhere.

  9. Ha, Jen, The fingers wear out in mine so I end up throwing them away before I lose them :)

  10. I have a pair of those Atlas gloves in purple! And actually that's the only pair I have. Most of the time I don't even use gloves at all unless the work is heavy, wet or cold.

  11. Three pairs. One of them has the thumb chewed by the dog, who loves my garden gloves as much as I, but for different reasons.

I know where all the others went. Worn out. Tossed. A glove with holes is worthless. Also worthless are gloves not worn.

  12. Ummm....my 'gardening gloves' are an old pair of rubber dishwashing gloves.

    That explains a lot, actually....

  13. One can never have too many gloves around since I never remember where I laid them down at. I think I have two pair left.Just do not ask me where they are. LOL!

  14. You made me laugh, Jen. I know I have 20+ pairs but probably only 3 that match :) Are they like socks that have a life of their own?

  15. Oh those are fancy gloves..mine are just old brown ones..I buy about six new pair a year..they get holes or disgusting and I throw them away..no guilt. I bet you were upset about losing the fancy ones, perhaps someone stole them:)

  16. I have the same gloves, I love them,(4 pairs worth). They fit tightly, are mostly waterproof and are bright colours so they are noticeable if I leave them in the garden. Now if you want to know about my socks, it seems one goes missing every time I do the laundry!

  17. I think I narrowed it down to about 6 pairs... mostly from the brand "woman's work" and some I've washed so they look more like little shriveled sun dried tomatoes than gloves. :)

  18. I know exactly what you mean!! Where do they go?!!
Mine tend to sprout legs and wander off because when I ask the kids, nobody ever knows where they might have gone.
Same thing with my long-handled pruners. Who knows?!
Good luck finding your gloves.... maybe they ran off with mine.

  19. I haven't misplaced any garden gloves yet, but the other day I was moving a large holly fern into a shadier place. Having dug the hole, clipped a few roots, spent half an hour getting that fern out and then planting it, for the life of me I couldn't find my pruners, I looked EVERYWHERE. Twice. Three times. Then it occurred to me, the only place they could possibly be is in the hole. Why I put them there I don't know, but sure enough, another digging and their they were in their gardeney crypt. I suggest looking underground for your gloves!

  20. Believe it or not, I only have one pair each gardening season, and of course one glove always seems to get a hole in a fingertip. I have a pair of gloves I bought 2 seasons ago (in Ohio) that I LOVE, and since I couldn't find the same gloves last summer (in Kansas), I just continued to use the same pair, hole and all. I have got to find a replacement pair for this year!

  21. Duh. I just noticed your pics are the exact gloves I have and love and can't find anywhere.

The problem is that every store stocks medium sizes and higher, rarely a small. When I found my gloves at a garden center in Ohio in size small (the Susan G Komen Atlas gloves) I was ecstatic because they fit, so I paid the $19.95 price.

I just did a search on Amazon and found these gloves for $4.93, and since I'm ordering a few books also, the shipping should be free.

Now I'm really, really happy! :)

  22. I use the plastic gloves (used by medicos), while attending to my Bonsai's. They can be re-used over n over again before the gloves become redundant giving way to wear n tear. Nice post!

  23. My bosses dogs eat one pair of mine!

  24. Those are the same gloves I wear, except purple. Always purple. And, somehow, I'm down to only one pair now.
