Toto, we’re not in Kansas, [BC] anymore

 2010 04 09 012

OK, my memory might be a bit faulty on this quote, but doesn’t Dorothy turn to her dog  and say “Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

Well, I don’t think that we are living in British Columbia, Canada any more.  Somehow we got switched to Alberta, or Manitoba, or one of those frigid Provinces.  The ones that we always brag to about what warm spring weather we are having.

And we do it in the middle of winter.

Yes, we British Columbians are cruel, but we also have the best weather in Canada.

Except for the other day.  What is with this? Two gi-normous windstorms, two! And what’s with the white stuff?  Hail, and snow, and sleet, my goodness, the hosta’s are up. Someone had better come to their senses.

Did anyone mention this to Mother Nature?

What’s she doing, taking a spring break in Mexico?

Hello?  Hello?  Anyone there?

Oh hi, yes we were just mentioning you.

Pardon me Mother Nature?

Okaaaayyyy, sure I’ll bring you another Pina Colada.

Well, it looks like we might be stuck with this weather for awhile.

  1. Gorgeous pictures! We had hail here about 2 weeks ago. Our hostas are peeping out too. I love springtime. We are actually getting our garden ready this weekend.

  2. Please excuse me for a moment. I have to go pray that that doesn't come our way.

  3. I think Mother Nature came here to New England, not Cancun. We had record rainfall and flooding, followed by a record high temperature. The plants are all off schedule, and I'm hoping we settle down to "normal" Spring, I guess whatever that is. Though here in New England, weather is always an adventure. Love your pictures and hope you don't get anymore of that snow.

  4. Oh boy, that first photo is so gorgeous. I love it!

I know...we were all sucked into thinking Spring had arrived early and now we're scrambling to find our sweaters. It's a cruel joke.

  6. Jen, we had near 70 F several weeks ago that turned to rain and mid-50's; last night we had freezing and I'm ready for Spring to be here. Hopefully this is the week!

  8. Hahaha, living in Norway I can totally relate to this- although right now our snow is melting- slowly but surely- and I'm hopeful it won't come back for six months or so..but who knows- this is probably that global warming no one really believes is happening....
And yes, Dorthy turns to her dog while watching Glenda the good witch float away in her bubble and says..I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Totto! MY FAVOURITE FILM OF ALL TIME :-)
    Have a super Saturday :-)

  9. Ack, you better not turn into Alberta - I need an escape hatch within an hour or two flight, and BC is it! I want to know when I go to Victoria in the spring that spring is actually there waiting for me! That's it, you better cut off MN's pina coladas. :-)

  10. Well, from the East Coast, I must say...now you know how it feels! Of course, I'm not gloating...because I could just as easily wake up to snow any day now...

  13. I thought the frost on my tulips was worth the photos I got this weekend, until I walked through the garden today and saw the damage on the sedum and astilbe and cherry blossoms. I'm not quite sure it was a fair trade after all.

  16. I remember years ago having a terrific hail storm which just left our hostas all beat up. I hope this week provides you with some picture perfect weather Jen.

  17. Ha ! Actually Jen it is just the south coast and Vancouver Island that never gets winter. The rest of BC has a real winter, just like the rest of Canada :)

  18. Well Jen, Things were a bit better here today. I think the weather people are calling for the more typical April stuff. I hope this is true for you too.
