Oh peas, now it’s tooooo quiet

 2010 08 08_1520
Hard to believe but after months of raucous caterwauling there was actual quiet for extended periods of time the other night.
And that’s what woke me up.
The sounds of silence. Can you honestly believe it?  I kept waking up because there was no sound, no chattering, no screeching, no screams.
Coincidence? After I write a blog post called Some Peas and Quiet Please complaining about the 24/7 screeching of the gulls that has been going on for the last many months?
That noise that sometimes threatens to drown out conversations, and the TV?

Well, I have my suspicions, and there was much circling of seagulls the day after I wrote that post, many long keening voices as they gathered, swirled, and then took off in various directions.  I think that they held a meeting, a “let’s make Jen think that she is hearing things all night” kind of meeting. Ha! I have witness’s, both Gar, and Bootsie have heard them. So take that you darn seagulls.
But the meeting broke up the way that a disagreeing group of NIMBY’s usually does.  Typical White Rockers, they can’t agree on anything, other then it’s not going to be in my backyard, uh eh.  No way!

Now everything is back to normal, sweet peas are blooming, the sun is shining, and the seagulls are overtaking White Rock once again.
Life is good.

  4. Jen, glad those bad boys and girls took off. Bad gulls. I love your sweet peas. Did you know I've never smelled a sweat pea? I've tried growing them, but can never get them to bloom before it's too hot. This year, I tried a dwarf variety. They bloomed, but no scent. Ah, well, that's the way it goes.~~Dee

  6. Gosh, I would never wake up from silence. I do have guests who say that though. Here there are Blue Jays... a gang this year... that start the days with their scratchy shrills. I sure miss the symphony of lovely songs from various songbirds. I hope you adjust to the peas and quiet now Jen. ;>))

  7. Darla, thank you, they still have not told me what the results are, but I will deal with it when they do. Right now things are better, and I don't have that nasty rash on my face. So life IS good.

As for the seagulls, unfortunately that was so far, a one night thing only. I think the group has disbanded due to belligerence and infighting. So now they are back to being super noisy.

Dee, you need to plant heirloom varieties, they are super scented. There is nothing in life like the intoxicating scent of a sweet pea....try planting them super early.

  9. Jen, now I remember why sweet peas are one of my favourite plants. There is nothing sweeter - except maybe one in the rain. :)

That is too funny about the seagulls .. but so true .. I think they have a master plan to drive us all nuts actually .. we have them here as well and can they ever cause a ruckus along with the crows .. it is all a master plan .. did I say that out loud ? are they going to 'get me" for revealing their MASTER PLAN ?? .. what were we talking about ? ah yes .. the gimpy leg .. coming along but still feels like it is shot full of novocain ? that is what a good old nerve compression will do to you .. learn from me girl! don't play with heavy bags of rock !!!

  13. Hi Jen, Lovely raindrops on those beauties! I am certain that the Sea Gulls have your number and are irritating you on purpose..now you are laying awake wondering why they are not making noises. Either way you miss some sleep..it is probably just the steroids keeping you awake.. I hope you are a bit better:)
