The Dahhhhhhllia Darling, the Dahlia

2010 09 13_2773

Sometimes it’s worth pushing yourself to get out there after work, and do a walk.  If I hadn’t there wouldn’t have been a opportunity to get these shots of the dahhhhhlia darling.  Since it seems to have been raining every other moment this week.

For some reason when I see Dahlia’s, they speak to me in that beautiful sultry voice, the film noir, movie star with the smoking cigarette holder in her hand, and the drawling, low key voice. The dahhhhhhhhlia darling, the dahlia.

What?  Don’t flowers speak to you?

  1. Hi! I just discovered your blog. I follow a comment you made on Brenda's cozy little house. The name of you blog is what attracted me! Your photos are stunning. I am a very amature photographer and will begin photography classes in a couple of weeks.

Your dream of an Organic Veggie farm sounds wonderful!

  2. Hi Jen~
you KNOW flowers speak to me!
    they call out my name..
and there I am right on cue..
    camera capturing their every utterance!
I know what you mean about Dahlias..
and sultry movie stars of the silver screen..
so very elegant, icy cool and yes mysterious..
yet ever so ready to whisper their secrets..
    are you listening?
    warm sandy hugs..

  3. This past year my flowers have been speaking to me too but they are calling me bad names due to the way they have been neglected.
I would wash their mouths out with soap but that would mean I would actually have to go out in the garden at interact with them. If I had the time or energy for that I would have gone out an fertilized them or something.

  4. Great pictures! I love my dahlia's as well. They are just so bold and colorful. Can't imagine my garden without them.

  6. Wow - they are luscious, exotic and very sultry. The Marilyn Monroe of the flower world!

  7. This is hardly related, but it kind of is..the way you wrote Dahhhlia made me think of it. When my brother was little he thought (and this is the way he told us) that 'toffee was the way rich people said taffy.'

We often now look at each other and say 'Toffee Dahhhling'

  9. I love that first one, although I'm not really a dahlia fan.

  10. I must admit to being a fan of Dahlias too. But I sort of think of them as the Carmen Mirandas of flowers, so ready to be extravagant and showy.
