He loves Roosters

Rooster texture

What’s the rooster got to do with this post?

I was working on some textures and felt like sharing this photo.

So actually the Rooster does have something to do with this post.

Gar loves roosters, and chickens, and if you love something you project that in the way that you speak about them. And when you show a lot of enthusiasm for something, people tend to remember that.

And here is where we run into trouble.

People like to give you things similar to what you have expressed a “like” about. Which is really wonderful, except when you go from being the guy who likes chickens, to the guy who has ALL of those chickens, as in “wow, does he have a chicken collection or what?"

When do you cross the line?

Or as the joke goes, why did the chicken cross the road?

To find a place to live, it was too crowded in the condo.

So our little place was overrun with chickens, and roosters.  We loved them, but at the rate they were reproducing, it was starting to look like a hen house.

Gradually we managed to gracefully wean off our wonderful friends and family members who only thought of us as “chicken collectors” and now think of us as real people again.

Whew, and thank goodness.

So when a friend mentioned chicken collecting during a visit together in a gift shop, we made certain to peck that thought in the bud.

No cluck about it.

Are you the unwitting, or unwilling recipient of a out of control collection?   If so what do you collect?  Or..do you give certain items to friends, because they collect?

  1. I can relate to that. Because I love dogs, I tend to have collections of all things dog and I must admit I do the same in gift giving and have to watch myself.

  2. After college, I worked for a very kind man, whose nick name was Rooster and he had a huge collection of roosters from everyone. That was about the time that I visited Germany with my folks and I brought him a German rooster!!!

  3. I love roosters too and that's a really gorgeous fellow in the photos. Love the texture.

The only thing I can honestly say I consciously collect is Quotations. I don't really have any friends who are collectors, as such. At least, not that I know of anyway.

  4. Yes, I admit I've given gifts to collectors of what they collect, because I couldn't think what else to give them! Loved this post!

  5. I collect cats. (Apart from Aragon and Chocolat who are of course not 'collected', but family members) About a dozen special ones, that I love, with a history. And any others get quietly shuffled on ...

  6. Bears and more Bears. I collected them for years until I finally burned out on them or rather ran out of room. LOL! I finally gave a bunch away and just have a few now that I bring out on holidays or to decorate a little. I love knowing what others collect because it does make for giving a gift they will like.

  8. My in-laws collect roosters because the English translation of their last name is rooster. My MIL also collects teapots. She has them everywhere. I have contributed to the rooster collection, but not really to the teapots.

  11. I love the texture in that photo. Are you going to get roosters and chickens for your place in Armstrong? I bet they love the snow:)

  12. No collections here. Except of books and plants. Seven cats doesn't constitute a collection, does it? Hello? Is this thing on? :-)

  13. Jen I collect Santas. Not the Coke kind at all but the old fashioned Father Christmas. Not the cherry red Walmart variety but the more old world style.
I am given the regular Coke style Santa once in a while and though I don't want to be ungrateful they just are not part of what I collect.

  15. Fun post, Jen! With me it's a bunny-thing. Little garden statue bunnies - that come indoors during the winter so they won't crack in the cold temps. I put them in different corners of the house, and so far they haven't multipled. :)

Thanks for your thoughtful comment over @ my blog. I was thinking 'all things in moderation' but it really helps to hear what everyone has to say!

Wishing you & yours a great weekend,
