Me, and my camera

2010 11 05_4071

Me, and my camera.

We are both melancholy, a little sad that we haven’t spent any time together lately.  Not too thrilled about the November rain that lashes against the windows, making even indoor  shots almost impossible.

To my camera and I, November Rain is a GnR song, one with wailing guitar strings, and sad tones in it’s voices.

The reality is November rain is wet, cold, dark, and miserable.

Me and my camera, with it’s one single eye staring disbelievingly at me from it’s perch as I swing out side during a brief late autumn sunset.  How dare I leave it behind, the guilt fouls the air as I leave, how dare I?

I dared...because it was simply too dark outside to shoot, even with a sunset.

Me, and my camera, reminiscing over the light, the warmth of summer days, and bright nights.

Regretting not getting out more, not spending time together, not remembering that Autumn is a dark time, and winter is darker still.

Me and my camera, looking forward to the changes in the light, the coming spring.

To the days that me and my camera can spend together again.

  1. Me and my camera, looking longingly at some very basic studio lighting and the eye-popping colors of grocery store fruit.

  6. What beautiful images Jen. Just gorgeous orange shades with the sunlight on them.
My daughter and I went for our 4 mile walk yesterday and I left the camera at home. I told her I did not know what to do with my hands and that I felt like something was missing without the camera around my neck or in my hands.LOL!

  7. Those photos are absolutely glowing. Beautiful. I was just saying to my colleague at work yesterday, how much I hate how dark it is at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, already! Ugh...and it's only just begun.

  8. I hear ya, it's been so dark here that taking photos almost seems impossible. When I get home from work there is an hour left of sunlight- if you can call it that...heard somewhere there is 30 days left of darkness before the sun turns...then I'll be spending more time with my camera too!!! ;-))

  13. Jen, I had to laugh when I read this- you sound like my daughter. That personal relationship with her camera (Monet, as she calls it)- too funny!

    Happy coming Thanksgiving,

    Tessa

  16. Wonderful shots of autumn.

We've had grey days here - and snow... that's when my camera comes out to capture those darling macro shots of ice crystals.

  17. Hi Jen, Your photos are so lovely it gives one hope for bright sunny days again. I have decided I hate November..here everything is brown and it is so windy even if you wanted to go out and brave the weather the wind is blowing 60 mph..how fun is that. We had some blue sky and sun for a little while yesterday..Chance and I and the camera went out..most all photos were taken from inside the car:)

  21. Beautiful images, Jen! I'm not a photographer. And I think my camera has a sense of humor. When I try to pose a shot in the best light possible, it doesn't always come out. When I just shoot away in any light - that's when I get my best shots!
So maybe you and your camera can still go out in the quiet light and shadows and take some great photographs together! :)
    Wishing you a great weekend,
    Zuzu

  23. Jen girl I feel the same way with my camera and I!
The light change hits me more for the morning .. since I am a morning person .. but I can understand the people who hate the early dark evenings .. it is all a very sensitive issue isn't it ? I can't wait for the reversal of time already and it won't happen for a while yet ;-(
Hey .. i have changed my blog name in case you were looking for me ? it is now

  24. Beautiful light on the leaves. I love to stand under a tree, shot up toward the sun and capture the backlight on the leaves or blossoms. I live in sunny (sometimes the opposite issue you have, way too much bright light)FL so I do a lot of looking up. I also giggle watching others, with or without a camera in hand, go past me, turn, come back, look up where I am looking, look confused and look up again. Even when I tell them why, they still back away slowly, not sure about how sane I am! Once in awhile, I get another photographer stand next to me, smile and then get lost in their own world of light and the the effects. One thing, I might add here is that my "best" most "cherished" captures will not be featured on my blog or via email simply because if I even want to enter them in a contest, I don't advertise beforehand. My blog also has nice shots, some great shots people love and some plain old "travel" shots and "family" shots where I shoot smiles and laughter and love and don't worry a hoot about anything else. These are my memory shots. My sunset/sunrises and some of the beach shots are keepers. I love photography as my passionate hobby but I am far from professional. Just showing my vision of beauty through my lens. What kind of camera do you have? What lens do you use for the macro shots?
