Today, it’s Canadian Boxing Day, and for some it’s the day to get up early [4 am] and shop till you drop.
If you work retail, and have this day off, like I do, it’s simply the most wonderful day of the year. [Next to Christmas].
With the Christmas rush winding down, a kinder gentler day is dawning for us today.
For the first time we can actually relax, and enjoy ourselves, take a deep breath, and say “it’s almost over.”
If you have never, or you don’t work retail, then please, be kinder then normally to the service staff, they completely deserve it. They have been above board in pushing themselves to give you a wonderful shopping experience this year. Working long hours, being on their feet all day long, and striving to be polite in every instance.
And for those of you who have to work this retail shopping day, my heart goes out to you, and I hope that soon, you too have a “most wonderful day of the year.”

Been there for sure. I never shop on Boxing Day. Better deals at the sidewalk sales in January.
ReplyDeleteHappy shopping! We are snowed in because we are wimpy southerns who are afraid of snow. I hope to get out tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWorked in retail earlier- and yeah, my heart goes out to them at Christmas- I wouldn't want to deal with those crowds...Glad it's soon over and life as we know it will get back to normal...enjoy the silence...
ReplyDeleteYes, we are relaxing a bit today too. Come by and see our snow, yep, for real!!
ReplyDeleteOur family has been there and done that, especially in the restaurant business. Sometimes customers are not so nice and take all their frustrations on those that work long retail hours, but then you get the really nice ones that are always understanding. Glad you have the day off Jen, as I'm sure it was an exhausting shopping day for the workers.
ReplyDeleteWe must have a whole lot of poor attitudes here..a few days ago I shopped in a local book store..No thank you..no Merry Christmas..I know it is a busy time of the year ..but Golly Gee at least thank the customers you do have. I tend not to give retail sales people the benefit of the doubt...they should know what they have in their departments and they should be polite...or they should stay at home:(
ReplyDeleteBeen there and done that. I am so happy you have today off. Enjoy, relax, smile, hug and have fun, Jen!
ReplyDeleteI agree, be nice to the help. They have it especially bad these next few days. And they work hard too. I never enter the stores after Christmas because shoppers are rarely in good moods after the holiday.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I know the day well. Thankfully I am not in retail at this point, and both yesterday and today were very relaxing (although I did venture into the mall to do a little shopping myself)
ReplyDeleteSince I have worked retail during the holidays I try as much as I can to re-fold anything I pick up to look at, and keep any display I touch as tidy as I can. I know the horror of retail on the busy days of the year....
I am glad that you had a lovely relaxing day!
Have fun! I am not much of a shopper but I do love a good deal.
ReplyDeleteHere is the comment from Hocking Hills Gardener that I accidently deleted. That delete button is so close to the publish button, that I keep doing this all the time.
ReplyDelete"I am so glad you had a day to regroup Jen and to enjoy. Since I use to work in retail believe you me I always thank and re-thank the workers this time of the year.Enjoy your Holiday."
So if you are ever wondering where your comment went, you know that my mouse slipped and I accidently hit the delete button instead of the publish button.....again.

Lovely shots. I do feel sorry for those who have to work when the rest of us are on holiday...
ReplyDeletetradionally i love the day after christmas because everyone is content.
ReplyDeletehappy christmas to you and wishing you a merry new year.
It's fun to bake for family and friends! I made a red velvet cake for hubby...and since it's not my favorite, it hasn't been as much of a temptation! Hugs! ♥
ReplyDeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI am visiting your blog for the very first time. What beautiful photos you take. I enjoyed hopping through some of your posts and taking in all the beautiful colors of your photos - especially all the turquoise and birds! I plan to visit again! Happy New Year! Cheers from Brussels.
