Hard to believe that a short 4 years ago I had said we didn’t need a computer. Now that I am infected with computeritis I know that I require one desperately, and could not function without it. Not just for blogging, but for photo editing, creating new cards for my Muddy Boot Dreams card line, and running my home based business.
But each time I carve out a small section of time, I succumb to computeritis, and my resolve goes out the door. There are emails to look at, Face Book beckons, and twitter wants ME!
I have the best intentions, just to let that creativity flow, and somehow channel it towards production. Get right in there and edit those photos, but why don’t I download them after I check out FB?
It’s not like they have been sitting in the camera forever...yes those emails were important, and Face Book was calling my name, but did I really have to spend all that much time twittering my energy away? Oh, and my Zazzle store desperately needs updating, along with my website.
I need a workflow coach, one who will also make me work like crazy, and then get up and stretch. Not just stretch, work out, exercise. And then more work.
“No FB until you complete this task.” “No twittering until you download those photos...and edit them.”
Right now my workflow coach is sleeping on the bed, gently snoring away his dinner, that’s Bootsie I am talking about. The one who wants food every hour, on the hour, or to play with his string, which involves me running through the 800 square foot condo, and him watching me from a doorway.
He refuses to let me work too long, “take a break” he says, and while you are at it, get me some more food.
I think I need to fire him, or at least try someone else out.
But...I hear FB calling me, and there are emails that need answering, oh and someone just started to follow me on twitter...I need to check them out.

Dear Jen, Thank you for the laughs! Your bright tulip lights up my cold icy morning!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen - I wonder if your computeritis is related to sunshine or lack of sunshine? Mine sure is! Have you heard about 86 year old Bob McMinn who is trying to Save Mary Lake near Victoria from development? I blogged about him yesterday. Sometimes computeritis is very worthwhile. Thanks for your lovely photos!
ReplyDeletewhen you find a cure or a coach let me know...I have it bad!!!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I still need to clean up my blog and properly edit & organize my photos. I'm pleased to say that I DID finally back those babies up though.
ReplyDeleteI don't get Twitter though. That, I will likely never do.
All those things really gobble up ones time.I am trying to stay away from Facebook and I refuse to Twitter. I can hardly keep up with the garden blogging and the genealogy now. LOL! It looks so good to see more pictures of tulips. The yellow ones just cheers me up looking at them.
ReplyDeleteI need a coach some days. Sometimes I just can't get motivated and I just dawdle along on the computer when I should be doing a new post for my blog, or answering emails. Thanks for the lovely tulips!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
LOL - I have the same problem. Gorgeous gorgeous flower pics!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, You need a new assistant! Your yellow tulips are probably going to be the highlight of my entire day:)
ReplyDeleteI so hear you Jen! Was talking with the spouse this AM about my time management issues! I think I have to let Twitter and FB remain on the back burner and get some blogging chores completed. Goodness, my photos are a mess! Beautiful tulips! gail
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny!! Get up and stetch!!!
ReplyDeletebeautiful flower! love the color
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean Jen - I'm sitting here checking in on everyones gardens and it's absolutely gorgeous outside! Ok enough.. I gotta go!
ReplyDeleteJen, I wish you'd come here and tantalize my hermit cat out from under the bed! Beautiful photos! This is why I don't do FB and Twitter. Not enough time!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I, too, am a computer geek. I have a facebook profile too, but I have found myself investing much more time on the garden blog. I adore my blog friends because they are all so happy, positive, upbeat, and write such good stuff. I am finding facebook to be a bit drab these days. Twitter? Can't keep up. Keep up your beautiful work on your blog. cheers. ann
ReplyDeleteLike you, my biggest problem with computeritis is not doing the tasks I should be doing online. Too busy oggling online plant nurseries or playing pacman to respond to emails and put up posts. *sigh* it's a tough life
ReplyDeleteIf my job was not tied to the computer, I too would have computeritis. Since I have to be here anyway...
ReplyDeleteI do not go on FB or use Twitter and that is by design. Blogging already is a time hog, but one I really enjoy.
Oh, it's so nice to know it's not just me! My blog is eating my lunch on time! I think I will have to set a timer and limit my time so that I can actually get something done in a day. I just really enjoy reading all the interesting and beautiful posts, and then when I actually create one myself, it takes even more time. Kind of my personality...all or nothing. Before I hurt my arm, I gardened nonstop, from sun up to sun down, literally. I could not stop (which is why I hurt my arm). So when I had to lay low on the digging, I just channeled all that energy into the blog. So I've just traded one obsession for another. I cannot imagine having time for FB or Twitter. Is there a cure for computeritis??
ReplyDeleteWell you figure out how to manage it properly let me know your secrets or send Bootsie over to kick my butt too.
ReplyDeleteWow you express so well the challenges I feel and make me laugh while you do it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteFran
It so true!!!!! I get sucked into the FB/Twitter vortex almost every day! And I am well aware that cats are lousy work coaches. I'll let one or two into my studio with me and all they do is sleep or climb where I don't want them until I have to throw them out. But what to do? Social networking is supposed to be the only way to do business anymore. When you figure it out, let me know.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
A fellow computeritis sufferer
Ah yes, the dreaded computeritis! I suffer from the same condition. I have managed to not get sucked back in to the twitterverse, but there are too many other distractions. Its why I've still not really mastered Blotanical, I fear it would suck me even further under! Good luck treating your condition...
ReplyDeleteAh, the dreaded computeritis. I suffer from the same condition, so I sympathise. There are many wonderful things about working from home, but the ease with which one can stray onto FB, or email, or blogs... I've managed to leave and not revisit the twitterverse but I've still not mastered Blotanical because I fear it will worsen my condition to the point of no recovery! Good luck with your attempts to recover...
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I've been trying to work on lately - I spend so much time on my computer and I'm not very motivated to create. I guess I need a Bootsie to keep me in line. :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are gorgeous as always, Jen!!!
Hugs,
Zuzu
No te eloquezcas, sigue fotografiando asÃ.
ReplyDeleteMe encantaron tus flores.
Un abrazo
I understand completely. I have recently tried weaning myself off the (time sucking) beast as well. Fun post to read.
ReplyDeleteI saw on the news that some people are taking a digital detox to try to get rid of their computer addiction. I think I lasted one day. Seriously addicted, myself!
ReplyDeleteI try to limit my time but somedays when it is cruddy outside, I see no reason to. :)
