Yesterday’s news

2011 01 18_0159

It seems like so many times I take photos meaning to blog about them in the near future, and then they get put into the photo archives, and forgotten.

Sure it’s great fun to look at sweltering hot sidewalks in the middle of the winter, “sweetie, can you  turn down the heat a bit please, this summer photo is making me sweat.’  [As if]

And then we have the snowdrop photos from last week. All week I have been meaning to look them up on the computer, they weren’t too sharp, it was pretty dim when I visited my secret snowdrop place.  And I forgot, other things took precedence, work being one of them.

So here I am writing about yesterday’s news, and those snowdrops are probably huge by now.  But a full week of rain has made it pretty impossible to get out and shoot anything.

Yesterday’s news, both a good thing, and a bad thing I guess.  There are some events you are glad that are over, like a visit to the dentist, or a work week.

And then there are others you want to take out, give a good shake, sit down and savour them.

Like the sight of Bootsie running around the condo, tail up, legs akimbo, ferociously stalking a unseen prey.  Finally himself again after two bouts with a mysterious high fever.

A hug from Gar, it’s the reason my day stays on track.

The feeling of the sun on my skin, that’s one to keep for those rainy days, bring it out and savour it through the clouds.

The thought of spring... need I say more?

Let me know what yours are.

  1. I think one of the good things this week is seeing that monochrome picture of the steeple.

  2. The thought of Spring to me means planning the garden and starting the seeds. It means tuning up the lawnmower and clipping the fruit trees too. I love it, it means renewal and beginnings!

  4. Definitely a warm, loving hug to start and end my day. I didn't know Bootsie was feeling under the weather. So glad to hear he's himself again.

  5. Sorry to hear Bootsie has been sick. I think the steeple photo is lovely and so are the snowdrops.

  6. I'm sorry to hear Bootsie was sick, Jen--I know how scary that can be. My anchoring joys are my longsuffering spouse, of course, and the furballs that help me in my work, keep my lap warm when I'm watching television, purr me to sleep...and the plants. I'm waiting for my paph orchid to bloom for the first time, and it's quite exciting to savour the suspense!

  7. So many of yours are mine also. I love discovering the first green shoots of spring coming up from the ground. Today I spotted the first almond trees in bloom as we were driving to a doctor's appt. Then we saw the first pear trees in bloom once we got there. It those "spring firsts" that I wish I could keep, hold and savor the most.

  8. A beautiful post, dear Jen. Love the texture steeple image! In the midst of this frigid weather and tons of snow, I too am dreaming of spring.

  9. Nice work on those snow drops. Those forgotten photographs... they are just aging a bit. Never feel bad for sharing yesterdays or last weeks news. xo

  10. Warm dirt. Icrave the sensation of it in my fingertips. Nothing is warm out there now. Just wet, wet, wet. I have taken many of those same photo's. Started a post here or there, they just seem so misplaced when they pop up in the middle of winter.

  11. Last week Jack picked up a pinecone and said 'pi-co' and I have no idea where he learned it. I've been playing it over and over in my head and smiling

  12. I love seeing the snowdrop photos. It will be a long time before we even see the garden. It has been frigid here so I'm glad that part is behind us. I'm loving the little bit of extra light at the end of the days now.

  13. Thanks for sending your snowdrops to me here in northern Alberta - they're not a week late but months early. As always your photos are lovely!

  15. Your photos are outstanding Jen...wow! I'm so glad your kitty is back to himself. What a scare that must have been. Muddy Boot Dreams just wouldn't be the same without Bootsie;-) (Did I ever tell you our 1st doggie's name was Bootsie?! Loved that sweet puppy...).
Time goes so fast, it's hard to keep up with everything; with getting photos uploaded, etc. But some things are worth waiting for, and I'm glad you didn't post those right away because they were just what I needed to see right NOW:-) As far as spring is concerned, I say 'Bring it on!"

  16. Hi Jen, Did Bootsie have a kidney or bladder infection? OR a bad tooth? Two bouts of it..I hope it doesn't come back..poor boy.
Oh I just keep muddling through every day is one day closer to warmer weather:)

  17. That first hug of the day is pretty hard to beat. Watching seeds push up from the dark earth gets me every time. The low spring/autumn light on a beautiful plant. Sitting back with a drink of something nice and a pleasant ache in the muscles after a good few hours in the garden.

Glad I'm not the only one who tends to take photos and then forget to do anything with them!
