Duck, duck, goosed

untitled-68

I’ve been walking a lot lately with a friend, whom I am going to call TQ.  And to help us keep up our enthusiasm we are hitting a different route each time. Yesterdays route was a good hour long,  and included some larger, slowly inclined hills.  I am feeling very virtuous, but that could just be from the sweat.

It’s fun, and healthy I am sure…but the best part is showing off all of my favourite haunts, tucked away little parks, cute ponds, and great flowers.  We went to a park that most likely is a water reserve, right in the middle of the city. Gorgeous rolling hills, and piles of goose droppings everywhere.

We didn’t find too many ducklings, or goslings,  the ones we did see were adorably gangly.  What a great park to have your yard back onto, a full grown trees, birds chirping, sun shining, life is good kind of park.  Seemed like a lot of people thought the same thing.

The geese loved it to, did I mention that there were piles of goose droppings everywhere?  Yes, it was a lot of duck, duck, ohhhhh I stepped in it.  Goose stepping everywhere, funny to see all of us with our winter white legs in shorts, doing the goose step.

The birds chirped, the geese did their yoga stretches, and the ducks swam in the water.

And we goose stepped.

  1. Funny! Good for you with all the walking. I love Canada Geese and the honk, honk sound they make.

  3. What a beautiful place to walk! I play golf on a course here, where at one fairway, a lot of geese hang out. And don't you know, that every time I tee off, my ball veers to the right and lands in the goose poo! Every. Single. Time. :-)

  4. Oh, I think I know the park you mean, Jen! I remember one year the droppings were so profuse it required a lot of hopping and skipping to try and get through the pathway and lawns. It is impossible NOT to step on it eventually, though.:))

  5. That seems to be the norm for any of the parks that have water.
Stanley park was so bad one year we left.
You make the park look fabulous, poop and all. Now wipe your feet.

  10. Sounds like a lovely way to start the day:) I know it sounds funny, but I'm slightly afraid of Canadian Geese. I'd been chased by the evil hissing beasts often enough in Michigan parks and parking lots that I harbor a slight ill will towards them;) If the worst you get is dirty shoes, I think that's not too bad, hehe!

  13. Picturesque in the park, but not very practical. Geese poop. They used to be a problem on the dock where my brother kept his sailboat. The beautiful people drove up from Atlanta for a day of sailing and could not walk down the dock without stepping in something.

Your parks are lovely, geese or no.

  15. Canada Geese are so beautiful but their droppings are not. Apparently there is a town up river from me that has a serious problem of hundreds of the geese on their lovely green park lawns leaving their droppings everywhere. And, they are also at the nearby beach which is not healthy at all. They really are a nuisance in some respects. The pictures of your walk in the park are lovely despite the droppings you had to dodge. Enjoy your exercise times.

  16. oh I miss the many parks in Vancouver. I started bird watching when we lived there because there were so many places to go and see so many ducks (and ducklings!). Thanks for the walk.
