Split pea’s and garlic

untitled shoot-0984

My beautiful purple peas pods, with the surprisingly green peas inside of them are so beautiful.  But I am a little perplexed because suddenly they are splitting in half.  Nothing is falling out yet, but the pea pods are definitely splitting.  [If you know why, please let me know.]

Maybe it’s because I forgot to water my garden.  It was only a few days, but I probably shouldn’t have done that.

So maybe I was distracted, the sun came out, the sun went away.  We watched the Canadian Snowbirds display team last night.  They were amazing, like always. And when they suddenly come out of now where to dive bomb the beach, it makes my heart stop.  Talk about sonic boom.

Or maybe it was the sheer beauty of a garden that’s not wilting in the sun that made me forget to water it.  Frankly, this slightly cooler weather is making gardens look lush, and green, instead of wilted, and pale.  See there’s is a good thing in having a rainier summer.

Anyways I am excited, because Heather at Missing Goat Blueberry Farm is pulling garlic, and I love LOVE garlic.  Heather grows blueberries, makes her own jam, has chickens, all on their certified organic farm.  Her jam is absolutely delish, and her blog is wonderful.  I promise to share some photos of her amazing farm in the next little while.

So yes, my week is much better, and thanks so much for your kind comments.

Don’t mind my garlic breath, I couldn’t resist taste testing a bit.

  2. Those peas are gorgeous...don't know why they are splitting though...you won't have to worry about vampires if you eat the garlic, :)

  3. Those are beautiful peas, maybe they are splitting because they are ripe.

  5. I heard that the Snowbirds were doing a practice run out your way yesterday. I didn't see them, but I thought of you and what a treat it must have been.

Forget the garlic - she lives amongst blueberries?!? *sigh* Now THAT'S heaven. *smile*

I'm not a gardener (understatement, as you know), but I'd say your peas were splitting because they've grown so big & plump that the pods can no longer contain them. Enjoy!

  6. Purple pea pods? New to me but they look yummy. Maybe the split because they're ready to be eaten?

Seeing the Snowbirds would be awesome!

  7. Your peas look great and ready for eating - I'd guess they're splitting with ripeness. Love the purple pods!

  8. Jen, I concur with the others. Your peas look like they're quite ripe and are probably bursting with it. Taste test them and find out!

  11. Those are beautiful pods! I'm going to have to give those a try... except I never have much success with peas. I keep trying each year though.

  14. I've never seen purple pea pods but I must tell you that the first photo is just gorgeous! The color is beautiful and I love all the contrasts...straight vs round, rough vs smooth. I hope they are as enjoyable to eat as they are to look at!
