The changes are undeniable, and obvious. Cooler temperatures in the morning, a slight dampness on the deck chairs.
A different light, all day long, and well into the evening.
Summer is winding down, it’s in the leaves of the perennials, looking their age. It’s in the sky when the sun comes up later each morning, it’s in the fading annuals, that valiantly still try to bloom onward.
Gather up summer, embrace these moments, hold on as long as you can. Each day is too short, too sweet, too precious to waste. Make your memories, take your photos, and store away this blissful weather in your mind.
Go to the beach, the lake, the cottage, look at the sky, memorize it. Tattoo summer’s beauty on your heart, and store it for when the winter seems too long to bear another day.
And when that winter day comes, when it seems the weather will never change, remember that you gathered summer, and embraced it.
And it lit you from within.

I feel it, too, even though it seems as if summer has not yet had its full run in our area. The new season comes like a whisper, at first. And it's hard to imagine the chill ahead when I just warmed up with a pretty picture of your teapot with flowers blooming on top. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel it too Jen. This year has been so strange weather wise that somehow summer has felt shorter. Plus the fact that it seems to be whizzing by too fast. Yes, we need to soak it all in before it soon disappears. The teapot shot is so beautiful. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou have written such beautiful thoughts on the end of summer feeling! I am really noticing it here and as you say - holding on to the memory, smell, sounds and feel of summer for the season of winter. BRRRR. I think I'll go sit in the sun for a few mintutes and warm up. Savour the moment.

ReplyDeleteAwe, Jen I know what you mean about savoring summer. We have to save our bank of summer memories so we can use them during the long winters don't we? Thanks for your beautiful words. Each day really is too short, too sweet, too precious to waste!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautifully poetic words and gorgeous photographic representations of what summer feels like. I love this post, Jen!

Beautiful words to remember.
ReplyDeleteSo true...all is too short and sweet.
Well said, Jen! I too can sense the season changing here on our west coast, particularly noticeable when the cool nights settle in. Your words are touching and so true...we do need to "tattoo summer's beauty" in our hearts for the rainy days ahead, and store all the warm memories we can snatch up to last through winter...:)
ReplyDeleteAlways love my visits here.....
ReplyDeletefall is coming on fast! I have a friend whose garden I may visit on Sunday..I hope it is cloudy..I hope to take lots of photos. I am way short of flower photos for winter:)
ReplyDeleteLovely lovely pics and words!
ReplyDeleteI am busy gathering in the summer - even in our downpour! I fell the F word coming on. Yes, fall!
Dear Jen, Although our tempertures still say summer, I can tell that Autumn isn't too far off~The light is indeed different and the angle of the sun means more shines in my den~Lovely, lovely prose and photos~xogail
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYour idea is fine and photos, too.
When summer ends I feel somewhat lonely when I was young. But now I got to like autumn because of too hot summer.
Have a fabulous weekend!
Sarah.
It's so true - the air is different even if the temperatures during the day are still high. Time to open the windows at night and enjoy the sounds of the fading summer. It's so fleeting for those of us who live in four seasons.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful and poetic words, Jen! I shall do just that.

Beautifully written and lovely photos. Unfortunately Norway hasn´t had much summer and I have been wondering how we will deal with the long winter ahead of us...I think I´ll carry your words with me this winter...along with memories of the day or two of summer we have had :-)))
ReplyDeleteThere is a change in the air here too - although brief - we've had a very long, hot, dry summer - but I have enjoyed it. I anticipate we'll have a second flush of blooming before winter sets in - which is typically mild. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit - your newest follower,

You always hit the nail on the head for me, Jen. Great sentiments. My Summer has been so short, too many unexpecteds that gobbled up my time and energy. I think I can breathe now. LOVE this post.
ReplyDeleteOh Jen, that's exactly what I will do. I will tattoo summer on my heart to make it through winter. You've captured my sentiments exactly!
