Beach time

We did something on Sunday that we haven’t done all summer long, although I do know why we waited until now to do it.  We spent time alone - together at the beach.

We are not crowd people, we both work in environments that mean we are never alone.  So anytime spent together quietly is cherished.  That means the beach during the summer months is not the place to be.  It’s crowded with tourists, happy kids, and barking dogs.

But it’s a different beach when summer ends, a endless stretch of sand, and sun, no echo’s but the waves.  Of course there are still people, but there is also silence, and a glistening spark of light off of the waves.

Perfection is sitting on a salt encrusted log, coffee in hand, the sun warming our faces, and having no one intrude on our space.  We could watch the happenings from afar.

When a crow dropped in to visit, I managed to grab some shots without scaring him off.  The seagulls flew overhead, and the sunlight shimmered through their feathers.

Time spent together is time expanded, loved, and remembered.  A few moments in our lives, that refreshed our souls.  Something to carry us through the rain that surely is coming.

What’s your favourite “beach time space?”

  1. Being raised in Florida, beaches everywhere, I rarely go anymore. Quiet time alone is also rare around here, to be treasured when it does happen though.

  3. Oh, I know that tree so well, Jen! It’s like an old friend. I love to wander that beach this time of year when visitors are sparse and the weather promises to get wetter. You captured well the sparkle in the water and in our refreshed souls when we visit the area. :)

  4. It is always so peaceful this time of the year at a beach. My daughter and I visited Cowan Lake over the weekend and there were just a few people there and one boat. The wind was blowing so much there were white caps on the water. It was good to watch the waves come in. I love your shot of the sparkling water.

  5. We're the same. We don't like crowds much and prefer to enjoy nature in the quiet & solitude of our own company. The perch on a log with hot coffee in hand, sounds wonderful!

  6. In the summer time I like to wander the vast sands of Jericho Beach at low tide, in the winter I like anywhere by the ocean. Love your photos.

  7. When I lived on the East coast my favourite time at the beach was on foggy days when there were no sunbathers, just a few of us listening to the muted sound of the surf and looking for sea glass and pretty rocks. Lovely memories!

  8. The rain is here!

We like the off the beaten track beaches in the National Parks. Too far away for the crowds and so we can walk in peace. With the birds, and the waves ...

My favorite beach time space is the front step on our porch on a sunny day....watching the sun make its good-by rounds....

Lovely post my friend....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  10. We like to go to the beach in the 'off season' and rarely go to a popular crowded beach any more! I will have to say though...any time spent on the beach at the ocean is my best day! Lovely photos, Jen! ♥

  11. We aren't beach people - at least the kind who lay and bake in the hot sun. We do enjoy walking on beaches though, feeling the breeze, listening to the waves crash on the shore, searching for seashells or rocks and just sitting and staring at the water. Oh, for a minute I thought I was somewhere else. Shoot! Just a dream.

  14. My favorite beach time? Ha. Well, let's see. The last time I was on the coast was in 2003 when we toured Ireland. On a short trip out of Dublin we went to see Malahide Castle that was near the coast--walking distance. We walked the rocky beach, watched the kids gather shells, smelled the sea air, and reveled in the glory that we were in Ireland. We had other beach walks on the trip: Dingle Peninsula, and other places along the tour. Very good beach memories. Thanks for reminding me. Oh. I forgot. a couple of years ago we visited my brother in Texas. He was 2 hours from the coast. We took a drive there, but Ireland rates #1.

  15. Any connection with nature, be it on a beach, on a leaf strewn path in the woods...without the hustle and bustle of crowds and caos- is rejuvinating for the soul! Your day at the beach looked perfect! I don´t live near a beach unless the lake beach counts..maybe it does...and our beach experience has consisted of puppies playing by the side of the water and realizing for the first time that it gets deep...hahahaha...their facial expressions are priceless! Have a super day Jen!

  17. Jen when i was a child I loved the crowded beach. But I never saw the crowds. i was in my own world, alive and transported somewhere else. I love the morning on the beach when there are no crowds. of course moonlight and sunset are also great times as well. Heck anytime I can be alone on a beach is a great time. Wonderful photos. My husband and I like to visit the local nature center and hike when there are no crowds.

  20. I grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan, and even though I live six hours away from it now, it still calls me "home" several times a year. I particularly love to be there during a wind storm, even though it pelts me with sand. So exhilerating!

  21. "Beach time space" ... standing on the deck of a rented beach house around Midnight, with the breezed coming off the ocean, the stars overhead and the waves crashing on the shore. (Imprinted in my mind, hopefully forever...)
