Climate change, and long underwear

Muddy Boot Dreams-1153

Thank you to all who have left such wonderful congratulations on the other day’s blog post regarding our new climate change, and need for long underwear due to our move to the Okanagan.  Excited, rushed, looking forward to a new adventure, that’s us.  Yes less then two weeks to go, [heart pounding but in a good way].

This is a new adventure, one that we have looked forward to for so long, can’t wait, we have all this packing to do, and the phone rings off the hook, so many arrangements being made. The Boo just sleeps through it all, nothing comes between him, and his nap time.

I have gone out and purchased my snow boots, and my long underwear.  Made of spun rayon, from bamboo, I can’t wait to give those babies a test drive.  I don’t have a winter jacket, down here on the West Coast we don’t need heavy jackets for more then a week every other year or so.  A good waterproof, all weather jacket, with a giant hood is much more practical in our rainy climate.  You just throw on another fleecy, and maybe double up the yoga pants.  [Take that Mr. Black’s, worst dressed list].

It’s snowing up in the Okanagan, cold baby cold! If you are wondering just how cold, take a look at the blog from my soon to be almost a neighbour, Carolynn from A Glowing Ember.  She recently moved up to the Okanagan, and knows first hand how cold it is compared to here already. It’s going to be some climate change for us.

All of my plants have been moved to a friends house, some we will pick up in the spring, and transplant them to their new yard….oh exciting, a garden, a house.

And best of all, we are being transplanted, I can’t wait to start putting down roots.

  1. Good luck to you. What a fun new adventure. I hope it isn't too cold. I advise some snowshoes if you get much snow. I'm sure the winter will go fast with all of your plans for the spring gardens. Thank you for taking us along on your new endeavors.

I think I see it in your last picture here ?
I think you are going to need Hot Booties .. the one on TV with linseeds in the soles .. that you heat in the microwave !!! PEFECT for those really cold times when even that fancy shmancy thermal underwear isn't doing the job quite right ! haha
I was just over to Carolyn's blog and wow ! another cat lover is so nice to see .. her cats are beautiful .. the Boo is the only guy amongst all the gals on line ? LOL

  7. Thanks for the info on the Okanagan...I was a little confused as I was thinking of the people, not a place (my cultural anthropology degree focus was on northern North American Indians...) Looks like a beautiful area - can't wait to see your little piece of it - and your journey in making it home....Good luck in getting ready for the move - and just remember to breathe....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  9. It has definitely been nippy here! The snow isn't melting anymore and I'm told that we can expect A LOT more. I just bought a pair of serious winter boots and my feet were so toasty warm and cosy, I wore them out of the store. *smile* (I paid for them, of course).

I'm SO excited for you, although I can't believe how fast it's all happening for you. See you soon!!

  12. Uprooting yourself from local seaside benches and the damp winter weather in and around the WR area will be quite a change, Jen, and one you obviously are very much looking forward to. I will be following your new adventures with anticipation wherever your “muddy boots” take you. :)

  13. Jen I feel your cold...120 inches of snow is light for us and temps average in the 20s and colder in winter....sending warm thoughts...

  14. I clicked on your links because I had NO idea where you were moving! I have never heard of this town! But I read about it and it sounds beautiful...orchards and vineyards...and skiing! I'll be anxious to learn all about it when you get there and start taking photos! Wishing you the best! ♥♥♥
