Dear Ocean, this isn’t goodbye….. I am not really leaving you, just letting the drive to visit you become a little longer. I will still come and see you, dip my toes into your cold water, and shiver when they start to tingle. I will still search for the morning light when I come back to visit, watching as it comes up behind the mountains. Listening to the symphony of the water birds as they greet another day.
Dear Ocean, you have been in my life for so long, I don’t remember when we first met, but I have tattered black and white pictures of you, me, and many a beloved family member. I have memories of your teasing tides, always in to greet me, when all I wanted as a child was some sand to build my life’s castles on.
My beloved Ocean, I will always keep you in my heart, knowing that there are some people who have never met you yet. Not had a chance to dip their toes into your surf, and I will wish them that joy.
I know you giggle with the white caps, and I see the depth of your emotions on a stormy day. I know that you are one of the most important friends in my life, forever…..
Dear Ocean, I miss you already, please stay in touch.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
I love your thoughts and pictures of yesteryear, but grin when I think about what will be forthcoming. Safe journey and happy house hunting.

ReplyDeleteOh, there's nothing like the ocean is there. I love these 'vintage' photographs of you and your family all dressed up at the beach! Sweet memories and I'm sure you'll be back some day. I hope your move goes smoothly! Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and poignant, Jen! Your blog looks so pretty and your words are precious!

I love the old pictures, the ocean will wait for you I'm pretty sure.
ReplyDeleteOh Jen, you've made my eyes water. The move away from the water will be enormous. But wow, look at you, going off to fulfill a dream. Hugs and safe travels. Jane x
ReplyDeleteMay of '64, I'd say the ocean has been in your life for a very long time!
ReplyDeleteMy love of summer, the ocean and beach is so dear that this post was a perfect fit for me....Jennifer jennsthreegraces
ReplyDeleteI haven't visited Dear Ocean in over 23 years - but hear from it often. I know you will too, Jen.
ReplyDeleteJen girl I have that connection too .. but it has been years and years since I felt my ocean, the Atlantic .. cold , crisp and always so truthful (oceans tend to speak their minds don't they ?)
ReplyDeleteI was born on the east coast as were husband and number one son .. I think having a bit of sea salt in our blood binds us to it even though we may not touch it for years again.
You were too cute as a child : )
Lovely round rocks to play with too!
These photos are precious .. keep them close to you : )
Joy (now missing the ocean again!)
I honestly thought I'd miss the water more than I do. I think all the other beauty we're enjoying and the wide open spaces are making up for it.
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate Jen that you will still be close enough to visit your old home. I find myself pulled between the two places frequently. I miss the rainforest and the mountains so much some days but I love my new home and have no interest in going back to BC. I do wish it was closer though so I could visit whenever I get that twinge.
