Meet the neighbours

untitled shoot-1576

Although we are staying here at the farm temporarily while we house hunt, we still would like to get to know the neighbours.  And the best way to do that is to go for a walk.   I take the farm dogs with me, because if you have ever seen a “eager to go for a walk dog”, it’s a farm dog.  They love to lead the way, and run far ahead of me, and then look back as if to say, “hurry up.”

This is Charlie, and Blue, bet you can guess which one is Blue.

Both are sweethearts, even if they have a tendency to bark at the coyotes a little to much in the middle of the night.  Charlie, and Boo our cat, are becoming far away friends.  Boo was seen standing within 2 feet of a sleeping Charlie the other day.  For a cat that really didn’t know what a dog was before, that’s a accomplishment.  No more fluffy tail, and spiky fur around Charlie, unless she surprises Boo.

There are horses boarding at the neighbouring farms, and each beautiful sunset night we would run into this woman, along with her horse, and dog.

Of course the farm dogs are friendly, and want to talk, but the poor horse was bucking, and heaving, not that nice at all.  Don’t know what set him off, but the sunset behind his head was lovely.

You take your shots when you can get them.

I don’t have a shot of the coyotes that roam around here, driving the dogs nuts.  I am rather certain though, that my beloved Boo would make a great coyote snack should he venture out alone, so we keep him locked inside safely.

More on him when I get a chance, once again house hunting, 7 in one day this time!

  1. Beautiful photos, Jen.

We have coyotes around here, too. I'm almost certain one ran across the road right in front of my car as I was driving the other night. We often hear them yip-yip-yipping during the night.

  5. Jen, I think this time of year is my favorite to photograph. The heathered colors of winter, and the golden sun, which you've captured so nicely in this post. Best wishes house hunting.

  6. Looks like a mighty fine neighborhood....and love your walking companions. The coyotes are out of control here - I was actually grateful when it became to chilly to keep the windows open at night as they will come right up under the windows....I try to keep a close eye on our little Shih Tzu - but keeping up with the Snow Dog is another thing....Wishing you the best in the hunt...wow - that's a lot of prey for one day. 8. Beautiful photos! You have found a beautiful place to live. It sounds like there are lots of homes for sale there so I'm sure you'll find one soon that suits you. Maybe even # 7! That's a lot of houses in one day. All the best. Blessings, Pamela

  10. What beautiful photos, Jen. I hope you're getting closer to finding the perfect house. I wonder what's growing in those hoop houses in the last photo. Hmm.... Your first photo, of Charlie...what a gorgeous dog. Blue is a cutie pie too. Blue and Boo, now there's a duo. :)

  12. Such wonderful golden light for your to photograph! What a dream.

You are wise to keep Boo inside with coyotes prowling. He'll be a pro at being full-time inside-cat in no time.

  16. jen, I've always wanted a cat in my garden, but, the coyotes make that an impossibility! It's beautiful where you're looking for your new home~Hoping the holiday brings you closer to it. xogail

  17. oh do take care of Boo. We lost our cat Lucy to coyotes a couple years ago and I can never forgive myself for letting her outside. The dogs are good to have to keep the coyotes at bay.
