I can’t find _ _ _ _ and the _ _ _ _ seems to have disappeared?

Moving, a perfect way to lose, or break almost anything that is near and dear to you.  All day long it seems like we are asking each other, do you know where the "_ _ _ _ “ is, or have you seen the _ _ _ _ lately?  How do things disappear into thin air, out of a cardboard box, never to reappear again.  Especially when you know that you packed them at the other end.

We are missing a few items that have a huge sentimental value, my husbands participation medal from his first marathon.  The photos, the medal, the paperwork, all gone… The little alarm clock that was on my night table for over a decade, ever since my Mom gave it to me…gone.

I’ve since found the frying pan, and the baking rack, but the salad spinner is gone.  The cute little cache pot I used for small plants is broken, a beautiful glass bowl is chipped, and my wonderful dragonfly bird bath has a broken wing.  All day we ask each other, have you seen the _ _ _ or the _ _ _, it’s like insert item, so much is misplaced, or maybe missing.

Many of our boxes survived their upside down delivery, and I honestly don’t know where in the two part move it happened.  Somewhere along the line, the boxes in my craft room have been turned upside down, not a good thing for boxes with small parts.  So all of my carefully packed crafting supplies are hither and thither…that’s life I guess. But can’t anyone read “this side up?”

Seems like his highness, Bootsie has settled in nicely.  He loves the space, and aside from the neighbours yappy dog, hasn’t any problems.  He follows the sun, moving from room to room.

Stuff is getting out there, but it still seems over whelming messy, and I have a problem with that.  We have almost decided on a paint color, I know…I keep teasing you with hints…but the house is messier then I like, and I just haven’t seen the sun for so long that most of my shots are blurry with the lack of light.  I did find my flash, and I will need to organize some shots to share..please be patient.

Between the move, setting up house, and helping out my Mom, and Dad, we are a little wiped. It’s slowly getting better, now if I can just find the _ _ _ or the _ _ _ life would be grand.

  1. I hope all these things show up. I am still missing something from my move 26 years ago. Guess, it is not going to.

  3. Jen~.. I feel for you!
Having made all those umpteen million moves while in the military,
there are /were items which simply vanished.. Others were found ..
tightly wrapped in so much paper I was amazed!
Now once again.. those same challenges will present themselves..
I pray for strength to guide me during this upcoming move..
and that this will be the LAST move..
ps.. I too still have a dozen unopened boxes in the garage..
from the move to Denver 6 years ago..
    warmest hugs..
    Loui♥

  4. One nappy cat! Glad to see him happily settled in his island in the sun. Hope the marathon medal turns up. Sad to lose those tangible memories. My great-nephew is wearing my father's athletics medallion. 3 generations later the sport is hockey.

    1. Hi Paula, I checked under the teapot, it's from Skye McGhie, and the pattern is called Verona. I love this set, my Husband gave it to me as a gift....it's very special to me.

  6. Moving always has some mysteries attached to it. Your pictures are lovely and I look forward to seeing more as you uncover your new space. If the cat's happy, then it's a happy house. Ann

  7. I hope it's a long time before I have to move again. It is a pain unpacking and like you said you just can't find what you're looking for or it's broken. Hope your missing items turn up - unbroken. Looking forward to photos when you have the time or just when you feel like it. I bet the camera might help to relieve some stress since you are such an awesome photographer.

  9. Nothing more stressful to me when I can't 'find' what I want to lay hands on. Sorry about the upside down delivery/shipping. Hope you locate everything in the process, my friend.

I just followed you on linky. Come follow me ...

    Have a lovely eve ~

  11. oh dear, what a shame about the broken dishes. Fingers crossed you find the missing bits. Unfortunately almost 3 years after our move there are still items we ask 'whatever happened to .....?'

  12. I know how how frustrated you must be. We pack so carefully, but it always seems that some things just do not survive the move. As I have said before, I have boxes yet to be unpacked. I don't even know what I am missing, yet. I hope that you do better than that.

  13. On one of our 30+ moves my husband's boss was helping with the unloading. The bottom of the box collapsed and all of my best dishes hit the pavement...yikes! Yep--things do get broken. :)

I have tons of moving stories! And after all of the years, they are actually funny!

Just keep telling yourself--This too will pass (like a kidney stone without drugs!)

Be very sure that you look in every piece of paper even the ones crumpled in the bottom of the boxes because small things can be wrapped in them and get tossed accidentally. Can't wait to see your pictures of the house!

  14. Hey Jen, hope you had insurance with the moving company. Can´t replace sentimental things but a small compensation is better then nothing, especially with the obvious neglect this moving company gave your things!!
Are you going to paint the walls of your home? If the colors displayed in your photos are from your new home, why would you paint the walls? They look so warm and inviting...I really like the colors! But I guess the new trend is light everything...for awhile it was color...now it´s probably light...I can´t follow along! Good thing I have lumber walls...hahahaha....
Bootsy looks very comfy...glad he´s settling in so well!! You never know with cats- either they like a place or they don´t.
Enjoy your mom and dad and hope your missing items re-appear at some point...where could they possibly have gone between A and B? Unless they were stolen??? Uff, hope that wasn´t the case!!!
    Have a great day!!!

  16. That is such a beautiful picture of the Booster on the desk ! Purrrfect cat laying in the sun picture .. it emanates sleepiness just by looking at it ! LOL
We have been very lucky with the many moves we have endured .. especially the sea container from Holland to here .. they really knew what they were doing when they packed that baby !
I'm sorry about your losses and breakage .. when something truly dear to your heart is broken .. it takes a chip out of your own heart I think.
But .. you are settling in and the Booster has nodded his approval of the new CatCastle ? hehehe
Speaking of painting .. Oh my ... more is supposed to be done here .. but it will have to wait for the Autumn this year .. I know your colours will be gorgeous and your little nest will be stunning !
    Joy : )

  17. I haven't visited you in a long time - my apologies. However, this is very serendipitous because we are in the middle of a move, too. We just moved a few years ago and are doing it again. We must be brain dead. I hate moving. I've lost some china. Other things, too. I feel your pain and hope you find everything!

  18. Isn't it amazing how things just disappear in a move. Everyone seems to be settling in and that is good. I hope you have some luck finding what is lost.

  19. Hang in there Jen...I'm sure those things will turn up eventually. As I mentioned before...I still have things in boxes in our building and this June it will be 3 years! What you're showing us sure looks nice...I know it will be perfect when you're done.
