I did tell him, didn’t I?

Over the years while driving my parents vehicles when I was young, and now using their vehicle to drive them around we have occasionally encountered some problems.  That’s normal, no matter how well maintained, vehicles break down.  When I was young, I used to mention an odd noise to my Dad, who had a mechanical interest, and he would take a look, and then tell me that nothing was wrong.

Both my Sister, and I have been telling them that there are problems with their truck brakes for a few months now. Of course my Dad, insists that there is nothing wrong, but to placate us he will have them checked. Although they were still fine, the repair guy said he would replace them to make us feel better.

Yesterday after picking up their vehicle from the brake repair shop, my Mom and I drove a few yards over to a parking spot at a garden center.  And as I wheeled into the parking spot I got the scare of my life.  The vehicle seemed determined to crash through the fence at the end of the parking spot.  Crunching noises, the feeling of brakes giving way, and total disbelief, after all I had just picked it up from the repair shop.

Turns out the ABS light isn’t coming on, and while I did manage to stop in time, there is something wrong that they didn’t catch at the repair shop.  See Dad, I did tell you there was a problem, but again…sigh you didn’t believe me.

Remember when I told you the Fiat would stall out at rather inopportune times, and you never believed me until you ended up stalled on the train tracks, and the train was coming?

Yes….hmmm.  I rest my case.

  2. Whoa, scary! But, it's cool that you are having some new, albeit hair-raising, experiences with your parents.

  3. Hi,

I think it's a fact universally recognised that men, in particular loved ones i.e. parents or partners just don't believe us. Only in these cases they're a little more scary!!
    Eeeek.

  4. Oh my, no brakes is a sickening feeling. About a year ago, a pulley broke in my trailblazer that went to the main belt that ran everything. My only warning was a "Helicoptor" sound from under the hood a few minutes before it happened. I lost power steering which made it hard to maneuver and it started over-heating. I had to pull over to the side of the road. Luckily my husband was home and I was almost home.

  6. Yep. One of those days when things just don't go well. I think most of us have been there and done that, but haven't described it quite as well as you. Good pictures. Fun blog.

  7. I can't stand it when the person doing the mechanical work on the vehicle doesn't believe you! It's maddening. I'm SO glad you stopped in time. That would have been worse than your dad stalling on the train tracks.

  14. Glad you all are okay. That sounds like a pretty scary ordeal. Aren't men funny? Hurts their manly pride to have a woman tell them there is something wrong with the car :)

  19. I am glad you got it taken care of Jen. Having no brakes is about the scariest thing.I am glad you got it stopped in time. I was lucky in that my dad was an old mechanic so he kept everybody's cars repaired. I so miss him now when I think my car needs checking out.
This picture of that truck is so fascinating. How in the world did they get it in between those trees? Or has it just been there that long.
