We’re taking it all off – word verification that is

1-2011 02 19_0695

I kind of feel like we should be playing a few notes of a drum roll here to celebrate. Because you have all been taking it off for a good cause, removing word verification from your blogs, and saying how much you don’t like it on other blogs. It’s hard to understand, difficult to read, and who has the time to spend trying over and over again.

Spread the word, pass it on, tell a friend, and then tell another.  Word verification isn’t the way to go.  The filters from Blogger have been improved and are very good at getting the bad stuff.

I really appreciate all of you who left a comment, to be honest, I was a little worried that no one would understand. And it’s nice to know that it’s not just me that has a problem with the squigglies.

Rock on word verification free blogs.

I was looking in my archives and I found these images of snowdrops taken last February 19th.  Just think, last year at this time we were starting our condo Reno, and had so much upheaval ahead of us, good thing we didn’t know what was coming.  While as a gardener I am missing the early flowers we used to enjoy on the coast, it’s good to be here in the Okanagan where we have longed to be for such a time.

And as soon as we get a brighter day, I am taking some indoor photos of our house.  There are a few areas that I would love your decorating advice on.  And painting, well it’s still needing to be done, we are getting close to picking a color that we think will work. Will share that in the next few days.  Imagine this, we have all the boxes unpacked, now it’s just detailing, cleaning up, and organizing.  And then I am hanging pictures, even before I paint. I need to see art on my walls, I love color.

Here’s to blogging, and here’s to good blogging friends!

  1. Beautiful photos! So glad you're getting rid of word verification. It used to be just a nuisance. Now it's suddenly became a tedious and complicated nuisance! :-)

  2. Same here. We will see if others follow suit.

I left a lovely garden behind, but we continued to own the home for another year. It sat empty while my husband did some remodeling. I dug up quite a few plants, but I left my roses behind, thinking that the next person would love them To my horror, when I drove by one day, the berm had been cleared of all the vegetation had been replaced with sod, including my David Austin roses, which are hard to come by here. I am still trying to embrace the new garden, but we spent 18 years at the old house making it perfect and then we up and moved. And I still have painting to do, as well. Can't wait to see the new color. No more WV. Cheers.

  4. Love your snowdrops....but love even more that you have deleted word verification. I set my comments so that all anonymous goes to my email trash folder and are not published. Should I decide to look at those comments, I can go to trash....but I normally am not that curious. I think every person should have an identity and be proud enough of that identity to go public with it!

  9. Yay and AMEN on word verification. My eyes are challenged enough these days and when I have been tortured with the new verification format, I usually just scrap my comment and leave the blog. Beautiful snow drops - they look like translucent little lanterns....I've never grown them....probably because I'm a fair weather gardener and don't spend much time "out there" until it warms up. I'm lucky to catch the daffodils and tulips....Hope your week is off to a great start! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  11. Those are such cute little flowers. I'm so glad you posted what they are called so I know what to look for online or at the garden centre.

    Have a great day!

  12. Yay to verification freedom! :)

I love the snowdrops. I had some that I transplanted from my grandmother's home in PA to my home in KS. They were so cute! We had to leave them behind. My brother and sister-in-law have some as well, so I can go and visit our heirlooms at least. :)

  13. Hi Jen, I am so happy you posted this, I too am having a horrible time trying to figure them out, they are certainly getting harder to decode. I have removed it from my blog, I would rather delete spam than never see my friends beautiful comments. Cheers Julia...xx

  14. Hey Jen - I removed my word verification yesterday. Your arguments made sense to me.

  16. Thank you for removing word verification. Perhaps more bloggers will do the same. I cannot imagine a garden blogging community without the ability to post comments when we are touched by a blogger's work.
Sadly, many in our community will risk being invaded by hackers and spam. I hope a better solution to word verification is not too far behind us.

  17. I understand about hanging pictures before the painting. I hate empty walls. I would rather rehang when the painting is accomplished. Hooray for word verification free blogs.

  18. Everytime I've taken word verification off my blog, I get spammers. Almost immediately. It's weird and I'm hoping that those that feel compelled to, will still leave a kind word on my blog. In spite of the gatekeeper.

  20. Last fall I took it off and have had no problems. It is a hassle, and I am glad it is working out. I wish more blogger would take it off. Perhaps your message will get around...I am spreading it...

  21. Amen! I agree with you 100%. No more word verification. I have been catching up on all your posts and laughed out loud at your chicken story! That's life in the country.
