I have found something that is even more addictive then Pinterest. What? I can hear all you pinners out there saying in disbelief, that’s impossible.
But it is possible, and it takes nothing more then a simple long handled weed puller, and a lawn full of dandelions. The urge to purge that lawn of weeds is overwhelmingly strong. Just think how easy this is, you start by pushing in the prongs set on the bottom of the weeder into the dandelion, pull back, and voila, with a gentle plunk, the weed is out. Discard it, and repeat…oh about a hundred times.
The next thing you know, the lawn is littered with more dead weeds then a dozen of chocolate chip cookies have chips, and hours have passed by. You don’t have to stop there, it’s always just one more weed, and then it’s just one more weed… Your wrists hurt, the cat is starving, and it’s getting dark, but you repeat, just one more weed…just one more weed.

These are not photos of Dandelions, but of Balsam, the closest thing I had to show you.
Chuckle... we humans are an addictive or should I say compulsive bunch!! Let me say that 'one more time'
ReplyDeleteThat's sooo true, I use mine to pull all of the thistles that keep popping up all over the place!! Too funny! Christina
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I am thinking you have a very good positive attitude when it comes to weed pulling. Perhaps you can bottle some of that and sell it? LOL!
ReplyDeleteAw yes... dandelion season... the only downfall to spring and summer. ;)
Have a happy Wednesday Jen!

Oh Jen don't I know it! Having moved to the farm though...I would still be at it 5 or more years down the road and even then I'd be only scratching the surface. If I just concentrate on the inside of the picket fence around the house I may be done in a year ;) Have fun plucking your weeds and enjoy your Wednesday! Maura :)
ReplyDeleteI've got one of those little gadgets. I always carry a bucket around with me and plop the weeds right into it.
ReplyDeleteHi, Jen
ReplyDeleteYour post is very timely as today is a dandelion pulling day. If you want a picture you're welcome to help yourself! http://mylittlehomeandgarden.blogspot.ca/2012/04/tulip.html
What the heck, come on over and you can pull and photograph them! :)

I say 'bah humbug' to pinterest, it takes away time from being outdoors and is just one more thing to deal with. I have two blogs and kinda keep up with Facebook, and that is sometimes too much.
ReplyDeleteI could use some of that balsam for my soap! :-) And for the photo of the dandelion, I had on one my post yesterday. lol
ReplyDeleteI don't think weed pulling would ever become addictive to me. :-)
Jen, I had to smile when I read this post. I have one of those weed diggers and yes, it is addicting! It works really well and last summer we hardly had any dandelions after using the tool the summer before. I'm still away so am not home to use it. I hope they don't get ahead of me!
ReplyDeleteoh Jen, I know that feeling! I'm having a hard time dragging myself out of the yard lately. Even though my back is aching and I'm tired and starving there's always just a little bit more I want to do. What a great feeling though being outside, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThat gadget sounds so cool! I'd have the same "one more weed" syndrome. I think the only thing that would finally get me to go inside would be the sun going down and skunk showing up to peruse the garden.

Oh they are so pretty when they bloom..ours just started blooming today:)
ReplyDeleteAt least something is blossoming, hey?
ReplyDeleteHa - my husband hates weeds, and just LOVES using that tool, and now my lawn looks like swiss cheese!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is doing that just now and works himself ragged. He said he was going to stop hours ago..But it's just him, a shovel and hoe..
ReplyDeleteI'll take balsam over dandelion any day. :) More addictive than Pinterest? Hmm... Actually I'm not convinced, Jen. You'll have to come and demonstrate in my weed-infested lawn. Maybe after a few hours, I'll concede.
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh because I used to have one of those week puller things and used it to try and manage a one acre property. I would fill wheel barrow after wheel barrow with them, and there were always more. My husband likened it to trying to clear the beach of sand with a bucket.
