It’s asparagus time, and this is our very first year of being here when they start picking at my Sister’s farm in Armstrong. You can read her blog here, Okanagan Asparagus Farm.
Delicate green spears pushing through what was frozen earth just a few weeks ago, give way to strong verdant towers of tender, delicious asparagus.
We picked some up today, and I used it in a photo shoot for her blog, and for their advertising program, and then…well someone had to taste test it didn’t they?
Oh my, any way you make it, farm fresh, is the absolute best.
If you can find some locally grown near where you live, make sure to pick some up, it it so much better then anything you will buy in the store.

We just picked some up a couple of days ago, can't wait to taste it for the first time this year.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. We glean the ditches for wild asparagus. So delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt's great raw too!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo at the top. I had no idea how this stuff was picked and now I know. It looks pretty labour intensive but kinda fun too.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's Jen. I hated the stuff all my life until my last visit to England when my sisters brother in law cooked some especially for me! (he didn't know I hated the stuff) He had melted butter and served them on a special plate...just for me.
ReplyDeleteHe was so kind that I had to try them...to my surprise they were delicious! I had only had one taste of canned Cream Of Asparagus Soup as a child and it ruined me for 40 years! In fact we had some growing in the garden of a house we purchased in 'Revy' but I tilled them up! Oh well..you're never too old to learn to like something you've always hated ;) Hope your weekend is a good one. Maura :)
Oh how delicious that looks. We love it roasted in the oven with olive oil and salt. Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteToo pretty to eat :)
ReplyDeleteI love asparagus but, can't get them here and I haven't tried growing them in this tropical climate. Farm fresh foods are always the yummiest!
ReplyDeleteWe eat it regularly. Mmmmm. Good. Asparagus spears are a work of art.
ReplyDeleteI love asparagus! My mil always had plants in her garden but they got dug up when a new septic field was put in so are gone now. :( I should plant my own! Pamela
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you got to do the photography for her farm! The way you've captured them is fantastic!!! I love all the detail on the spears and the way the light and shadow hits the bundles. So appetizingly beautiful.
