I was in a pretty bad [grinning] mood this morning and I just couldn’t get a handle on the approach to this blog post I wanted to write. See I am a formerly skinny girl, and now I am a slightly lumpy woman…”life, it adds weight.” That’s my new motto, LOL. Add in someone mentioning that I have gained weight, when all along I was in denial, well funky mood time.
But reality bites, and I am no longer in a funk, thanks to airing out the house, getting rid of the negativity, and just determining to be happier. If I have put some weight on, then so be it. We have been super busy with moving in and getting organized, and looking after my parents, and I neglected my exercising…thinking my formerly skinny genes would take care of everything.
I understand that’s the way life goes, and the doughnuts may have had something to do with it..they make the best cakes and doughnuts up here. I love to bake, I love to cook, I love to eat, and that makes a recipe for…
A new bike.
This is my thought, in order for me to be able to eat the foods I love, I need to exercise properly. We are planning on getting a elliptical trainer downstairs in the fall, that will be good for the winter months that seem to stretch on forever.
But for now the bike seems to be the answer. It’s just that a few things need to be fine tuned in that department. Namely me.
It’s been a long, long time since I have been on a bike, and a few things have changed since then. I’ll let you know about them tomorrow.
Until then, big wheels keep on turning…skinny former girl keeps on burning…
Calories she hopes.

Great choice Jen. Is Gar going to ride with you? Make sure to take your camera along, there is not telling what you may see. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteKeep those wheels spinning while you can Jen...
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I knew a woman who was very overweight because she loved ice cream. She bought a bike and determined to ride it every day and have ice cream only on Fridays. And on Fridays she had a huge ice cream cone in her favorite flavor. She lost weight like crazy. So evidently she biked more than she indulged. Worked for her. :-) Have fun. By the way, just love that header!
ReplyDeleterollin, rollin, rollin along. Have a great ride on the bike of life.
ReplyDeletegood for you, thats the answer! I have never been skinny but never really really fat, just a curvy girl, I am what I am, so be it.I'm getting a bike too, mine might have three wheels though,
ReplyDeleteWay to go...
ReplyDeleteGood job, Jen! This 'old grey mare' ain't what she used to be either :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you......I am still simmering from that comment made to you. Hah, but not funny.
ReplyDeleteA little fluff is just fine.
I cannot remember the last time I was on a bike but I can tell you it's been a loooonnnnggg time. Laugh if you want but I've never ridden a 10 speed. I'm used to the one that you have to work on the pedals to get up a hill. Good luck with it. I think it's a wonderful idea. I would like to get me a bike and ride again. Heck I might even want to take it to a trail in the woods. Now that sounds like fun. Hope you have a good day Jen and enjoy your ride.
ReplyDeleteI hear the song Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. .... Let's hope you don't lol.
ReplyDeleteThey say you never forget how to ride a bicycle. It is very good for your balance too.
Haha...your last few posts have really made me chuckle - and have hit home a bit too as I've put on a few pounds round the middle recently despite all my extreme gardening and tai chi! :(
ReplyDeleteJen girl you are going to be so happy with this ! All that fresh air and exercise will make you sleep like a rock too ! Even the Booster won't disturb you .. snort giggle snort
ReplyDeleteMy biking days are over .. wish they weren't but it is better to face facts (I'd rather fantasize ? haha)
Yes .. bikes have become an amazing science (it may even come with a coffee maker ? LOL)
You will have a blast girl !
Joy
PS .. I would have put in ice cream maker after reading that other comment ! tee hee !
Snazzy bike, Jen. I need to shovel my way through my shed and dig mine out this spring. My 6 foot frame used to be skinny, quite a while ago.

You are on G+ but not busy there?

I have some donuts for you. Tiny donuts.
As a formerly very skinny girl myself, I understand your dilemma. Once I hit my mid-forties, the body started to change and I have curves where there were none before. I like a few less pounds on me than I have now, but I've accepted that at the age of 59, skinny might look a bit strange.
ReplyDeleteYay for the bike!
xo

Good for you! I noticed over this past winter that my formerly fast metabolism has slowed way down and suddenly my pants are very tight :) I might need to dust my bike off and do some riding. Good luck with your riding!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, exercise, have fun and discover your new neighbourhood at the same time. I'm vowing to spend a little more time on my bike this summer instead of letting it gather dust in the garage.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I have a bike hanging in the garage with no wheels. Hmmm. I really don't think my knees can handle it now anyway. I hope you keep on turning those wheels and enjoy touring around your new community. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun having a bike!!
ReplyDeletechris
It makes sense and it widens your photo orbit too!
ReplyDeleteYou got a bike! I like my elliptical..just need to use it more. Take it easy when you get started and watch out for traffic:)
ReplyDeleteHi! I love your photos of the bike! That sounds silly maybe but you did a really good job of making it look very inviting! That's half the battle right there...once you get started it's pretty fun. I think maybe your situation happened to a lot of us gardeners over the winter...without all the bending and lifting of daily life a few pounds snuck up on me too. I'm working on them too and need to start my outside running.
ReplyDeleteOn a different note I am nominating you for the Versatile Blogger Award! Check out my blog to see the details. I must say you are showing true versatility taking up bike riding again! Look forward to reading more of your adventures.
Oh, what a cool new bike!
ReplyDeleteI need to get on mine too... but first, I'll have to wait for the fresh snow to disappear!
I bet you will be out rolling around the neighborhood in no time. What a great way to explore this summer.
