I’ll take one of everything

Oh, I am in trouble, big, deep trouble….  I thought I had the problem licked, but it seems it has just gotten worse.  When I go to a nursery it’s as if I am looking around and saying, “I’ll take one of everything,” in fact make that multiples of everything please.

I was too smug, thought I had gotten the spring fever out of my system after buying loads of plants.  They were hanging out on our front porch because we are still getting unpredictable shots of frost at night.  And I thought that somehow I had managed to fill that internal quota and need for more plants that spring keeps upping.

And then I was shopping in the almost big city with my Sister, and being a little smug, “oh see how controlled I am, watch me not buy too much” and it hit me.  I now have a yard, yes fellow gardeners A YARD.  And we all know what that means, more plants.

Where before I had to hold my self back, [to just over 200 containers at one time] now I have a yard, and more room, real dirt, real garden beds, and unlimited imagination.  Just think, forsythia, lilac, fruit trees, berries, shrubs, evergreens we can fit them all in.  Summer bulbs, check, veggies, check, herbs, check, fall flowering shrubs, check, spring flowering shrubs, check, winter interest shrubs, check…oh my…I am in deep trouble.

But who cares, I’ll take one of everything.

And I have a little confession to make, but that’s for another day.

  1. I was just listening to the weather forecast and they're chatting about the possibility of a few centimetres of snow later today. I wonder how my purple tulips and magnolia flowers will feel about that! Enjoy your garden planning.

  2. Uh Oh Jen! You have the bug, and it is a virus that can linger for the rest of your life. Symptoms range from mild to extreme in and around garden centers. And do prepare yourself for the roller coaster ride of emotions you will feel when invited to receive FREE seeds and or cuttings.....it is also much pain and pleasure as you learn what will and will not thrive in your soil......I'm here for moral support.... :)

  4. It's so hard not to take 'one of everything' when it is all so beautiful!

  6. Perhaps you need to do a little part-timing in a garden center :)

  7. Oh I know! Isn't it almost irresistible when we've had winter and then are suddenly faced with a sea of vegetable and flower starts. sigh. I try to keep a running tally in my head as I'm going through a place like that and not go over a certain amount. It adds up quickly! :-)

  8. It is so hard not to want one of everything so I know having a new home and yard it must make it really hard not to want to just fill it all at once. LOL! I am not safe around any store, even grocery stores, that have plants. LOL! Like Darla said that gardening bug just gets you.

  11. LOL! You've got my "disease"! I've been so bad about rosebushes that I don't think I could cram one more into our front garden. Now I'm scouting out spots in the back garden that were supposed to reserved for veggies. Slap my hand.

  12. At least there are not calories in plant buying. Yes, I too, will take one of each. That's partly why I came home with 6 roses Saturday. Oh and I am joining with Moving. Today I walked downtown to the post office and to the bank. Sunday we worked out in the yard all day. Move it Move it.

  14. I know your pain...I have that same problem...can't seem to leave them on the shelf where they are...end up adding more to my collection. But oh how nice they are when they grow and bloom.

  15. It's a serious disorder I think. There's just no getting away from it. The minute you see a new plant the hand starts to reach for the wallet. I promised I wouldn't buy new plants this year but as I'm redigging my beds I found myself going, oh wouldn't one of those look nice here... there must be some treatment for this somewhere
