There are a few things on my mind right now…but I figure it’s a good thing, think of the alternative. No thoughts, no life? Right? I’ll take the stuff on my mind.
Oh, and there is a bug alert for anyone that gets queasy if they see a pic of a dead bug. No it’s not a spider, I don’t do spiders, or snakes on this blog, remember long ago I promised. But I have to know what this bug is called…besides dead.
It’s spring, so why is the weather menopausal? It’s hot, then it’s cold out, I am hot, I am freezing..not necessarily in that order. Can you have hot flashes before you hit menopause?
Or is that just spring fever?
I really am obsessing about a gorgeous ruffled shower curtain that I saw somewhere, it had rows, and rows of soft stunning ruffles…do you think my husband would object if I made a ombre grey one for the flesh eating pink bathroom? Could I tell him it’s spring fever? And that the shower curtain will change back over for winter to the heavier dark grey/blue one that he loves. Do you think he will notice?
If it takes two positive thoughts to cancel out a negative thought in the universe, does eating a apple cancel out the bad parts of eating a apple with caramel dip, if you make the dip from scratch?
I found a wonderful recipe for caramel sauce, and I dream of it all the time. Been rationing it out over the last week, it’s almost finished up. I can’t remember where I found the recipe, to make some more, do you think the universe is trying to tell me something?
Bootsie is loving the sun in the yard, he sits under the bird feeder with his head tipped up towards the treetops and listens to the birds chirping, it’s so sweet. So far he hasn’t quite figured out that the birds are really there, not just a figment of his imagination. They’re eating out of the bird feeder when he is right there…synchronicity? Or just a over fed kitty who is too lazy to make a move? Not that we want him to go after the birds, I watch him carefully.
OK, BUG ALERT!!!
This poor squished bug, yes the one right beside my size 10 hiking boots, that’s how big the flattened thing is…at least 4 inches, OK, maybe about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long, what is it?
And why on earth did we move to a place where these honking big things fly around? What do you do if one hits you when it’s zooming around? No wonder people park so badly up here, they are trying to avoid the bugs squished in the parking lots.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
yick, a big moth maybe, it doesn't look furry though, thats one honking big bug, keep the cat in, might get carried off!
ReplyDeleteI hope those bugs are a seasonal thing and go away soon!!
ReplyDeleteMy Hubby and I are pretty sure this is a cicada.....locus. (Not sure of the spelling ) My husband said it was a live (but dead) one. You usually don't see them in this form. You usually see the carcus of these bad boys. The good thing about these is that you aren't supposed to see them but every 7 years.....at least a bunch at one time. For some reason we see them more often just not bunches of them. They are noisey and a little agressive. My husband also said this was probably killed by an cicada killer, a big sort of wasp. Now, I asked him if he made that up and he looked at me with a very serious face.....but I have never ever heard of that. Aren't you glad I asked him. I swear he does know alot about weird things.
ReplyDeleteIt does remind me of a cicada but it seems too early in the spring for them yet. Maybe it is as mixed up as the weather. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a type of cicada. A cicada killer would have paralized it and drug it back to the nest for its larvae. I think this one got stomped on by a size 10 shoe :)
ReplyDeleteTerri...that is the funniest things I've read in...well...a really long time. My husband just walked by and gave me a funny looked cuz I sunndenly burst out laughing for no reason. I have had the week from hell, and that was the best!!
ReplyDeleteJen...you are a scream as well. How lucky am I. I usually do my blog reading at night, but something made me go in before I head to the store and more local politics, and I thank you both!!!!! :-)
Oh Jen, by the way...I am a woman in menopause. Tt and local politics, a recipe for disaster. Anyhoooo, yes you can hot flash before. I think it's called peri menopause. I must say, I find the memory loss much worse than the flashing. I'll pray for you sister!!
ReplyDeleteWell I don't know what it is but when I did an image search for "big winged bugs British Columbia" there was also a picture of Susanne Sommers that came up. WHAT THE HECK? How flattering is that N O T !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is one ugly big bug..looked mothy to me. I doubt that I have ever seen a cicada so I am not much help. Oh I am sure caramel from scratch has no calories if eaten on an apple instead of a spoon:)
ReplyDeleteOMG ! Jen .. just the thought of being "hit" by one of those bugs has me sweating (menopause) .. but yes there is peri-menopause and sadly I had pre-peri menopause at a very early age .. I'm screwed either way and yes the memory thing is almost worse .. what were we talking about ?
ReplyDeleteCRAP !! that honkin' huge BUG !!
Yes .. I thought it was one of those creepy cicada monsters .. in late summer they make the same noise as my tinnitus, high pitch scream in my ears .. so that is icing on my insanity cake when I have to hear that ... you have a caramel apple recipe ????
Where was I .. OH ! JEEZ !! Junebugs !!! do you get Junebugs there .. they are HUGE too, although not as huge as Mr. Squishy there .. but I have a phobia about one of them flying into me .. and grass hoppers .. I hate the thought of them flying into me .. pretty much any bug flying into me scares the crackers out of me ..
OK .. I'm done with my rant .. nice hiking boots girl !! squish those BIG bugs with them !! eeekkkk !
Joy (I spent a long morning in the garden so I am tired and crazyer?)
That bug is gross. It could be a large moth that looks like a beetle. Many years ago one landed on the living room window sill (outside!). It was about 4 inches long, looked like a beetle when the wings were closed but when it flew it looked like a moth. I have only seen one since then but I don't have a clue what it was. This might be a cicada as many of your commenters say but not a June bug as they are rounder and dark brown and it's way too early for them. It might be too early for a cicada too. Any way, it's dead, and hopefully it doesn't have any friends!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a cicada to me also. We had to ask on my blog to know what it was also. Sure are big!
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for a cicada. I guess a dead cicada is better than a live one flying around in your face. We feed three feral cats, and they are so well fed that they just sit and watch the birds at the feeders. They are coexisting very nicely.
ReplyDeleteHubby's vote is for a cicada. Have you checked out iNaturalist to see if there's a possible id there?
ReplyDeleteErin is right about the peri-menopause. You can begin having hot flashes sometimes 10-15 years before menopause. I went through hot flashes 6 years ago because of surgically induced menopause. Trust me, it does get better. Mine went away completely.
It looks like a cicada but the only ones I have seen are green, and more rounded. Maybe it doesn't look so round cause you squished it.
