There’s a lovely little park in the nearby “Almost big city” that is really dynamite, and turning out to be quite the safety hazard. Lush green trees, a babbling brook, well tended city gardens it fits right in the center of the city, with Hi-ways, and busy streets encircling it. Tourist information would have us believe it is a beautiful and safe place to visit, [if you don’t mind returning to a smashed vehicle window, and missing purse that is].
This pretty little inner city park was shut down due to the possible threat of explosions yesterday. The Almost big city has a lot of street people, many of them transient, and yesterday one of them found a way to make a quick buck after he found a case of dynamite sitting by the railway tracks.
Seemed he decided to set himself up a small business selling the new found stock, and as soon as the Police got wind of it they cordoned off the park. The dynamite was a false call, only flares used by railway workers, but a guy’s got to make a buck where he can.
Then a few weeks ago the same pretty little park was terrorized by a speeding car that ran down the steep banking, across the tiny decorative bridge over the creek, and through some flower beds. Ending up on the other side of the park the driver and passenger then fled the vehicle…something about a drug deal gone wrong.
Ah life in the country, makes me almost miss the big city.

...and to think that little squirrel was completely oblivious to it all.
ReplyDeleteSure are gorgeous photos!
It makes you wonder what else Mr. Squirrely Nutkin has seen over the past few days. Looks like those small-city folks are getting their training for the big city. Great photos.
ReplyDeletePeople are crazy. You have me intrigued....I want to visit this park. Sounds really interesting. Colorful characters, a beautiful park....sounds like Central Park in New York:) Your squirrel shots are really lovely. It looks so green. I need a break from the desert for awhile.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful park, and with a colorful history of modern day bandits. I guess crime is everywhere, some places more evident than other.
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy! The squirrels seem to be enjoying themselves though. Great shots. I hope it wasn't your purse that was stolen.
ReplyDeleteYikes. I guess that's a hazard of any city park - but so sad.

I didn't hear about any of this, but then I don't read the papers, etc., etc. Our little local paper often has the RCMP news and it seems we have plenty of our own local criminals with crimes ranging from graffiti to stolen vehicles to drunken house raids.
ReplyDeleteNice shots of the squirrel! You had to be quick to get those.
Wow … lots of excitement in your neck of the woods, Jen! Who knew? But it seems as if all the news didn’t stop the local squirrels from continuing with their routines. I feel for that one squirrel, though, that appears to have been in a bit of a scuffle.
ReplyDeleteNot that I am blaming the victim here but really ladies why would you leave your purse in your vehicle. Leave the darned thing at home and either stuff a debit card/cash and driver's license into your pocket or wear a fanny pack.
ReplyDeleteI was at a birthday party 2 weekends ago where someone went into one of the guests unlocked car along a long driveway and took her purse. The chase was on but they couldn't catch him.
It doesn't matter where you are leaving your purse unattended is just foolish. Grocery cart...nope. Under the counter at work...nope.
There's craziness no matter where you live! But we need places for the critters! Cute photos!
ReplyDeleteNOT!!! wow, thats some pretty rough stuff for a park! But I'm sure the squirrels have a handle on it, and the chipmunks of course, I have had toremovce my blog but will always visit you, thankyou for being such a good friend, your kind words always made my day but my sight has become too poor to continue blogging and this last virus scare kind of took the wind from sail a bit, take care.
ReplyDeleteJen girl .. see ? .. ignorance is BLISS !! .. I am happy NOT to know most of what goes on in the world let alone our almost BIG city .. BIG sigh. Glad you guys are alright still?

PS .. I am so happy to see my Mr. Chips (chipmunk) is still with us .. between him and Little Bunny Boots .. our back garden is truly an Eden .. Bunny Boots was kicking up his/her heels last late afternoon .. I laughed so hard I almost(well .. you don't need to know that bit) but it was so beautiful to see a little creature enjoy themselves so much, they danced in my garden : )

ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteThat funny... and sad. It's tempting to think that country living would be devoid of crime, but like you've found the criminals just get a little odder and little weirder.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of the squirrel(s). Your BC squirrels are adorable with their ear tufts.
