[All these shots are from last winter, no
real snow yet around here, thankfully].
We all have that list of to do stuff
some of it’s more fun then others:
Since this is our first winter in our
own house, we are dealing with
winterizing chores that we
never had to do before, wrapping
taps, taking in hoses, fall clean-up.
Planting the last of the half price
shrubs into the garden. Granted
they are still in their pots, and
plunged into the soil, but they are all in, whew….until next spring.
What upcoming winter chores have you been putting off? Will you get to them?
No frost yet, two very light snows, we got the shrubs in under the wire. Getting more soil to top up the garden beds: Looks like it will probably be next spring for that, with the constant rain, it’s a mud ball out there, I am not into making mud pies in the cold.
My Mom has been squirreling away tulip bulbs, and each time I saw her she had bought more, next spring she will come and visit them in my garden. “Mom, look it’s your Grand-bulb babies.”
Next on the list is moving the pumpkin display, away from the front door, so excited “Trick or Treater’s” won’t knock anything down as they deafen the poor cat with the ringing doorbell. He is going to freak, since he has rarely heard it ring.
Notice the new badge on my sidebar? I’m excited to have been invited as a contributor to the Farm Chick Chit Chat blog featuring all things “Farmie”. Everyone there is very friendly, and I am looking forward to getting to know them. Click through on the badge to visit the blog, and be sure to visit their FB page also.
So…..I am now going to do a few other off putting winter chores, no really I don’t want to, but I must.

Lovely winter shots.
ReplyDeleteWe've done all our winter jobs - including changing to winter tyres and buying the kids winter clothes and shoes. We had a very cold spell - minus 10 C - last week so we couldn't put it off any longer.
I think you're loving every moment of the chores, lol, I am soo jealous, I miss our farm so much!!!!I love when you called the bulbs grand babies, thats so cute!! Wineter jobs for me?Sweep the patio, put the cushions away, cover my planters, that would be it , ha ha, !!!I'm a lady of leisure now, pampered and fat! (well not totoooo fat) we'll say , plump!
ReplyDeleteI am still working on my Spring list.
ReplyDeleteCute post . Lovely photos as well ! We are pretty much up with our winterizing chores . No snow for us here yet just lots and lots of rain ! We don't get trick or treater's here as we live in mainly a Mennonite area ! leisure days for me now catching up on my reading . Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteOur chores are all done here, well what we were able to do before the snow fell, we have lots of snow here... but the water lines are prepared, floaty jugs lowered in the lake, wood stacked, chimneys You can only do what you can do, the rest waits till spring. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteYes, I still have fall chores to do and hopefully will get them done after all this rain is done with. I want to cut my greens for the winter pots and there is lawn furniture to put away too. A lot of this will have to wait until after the 16 of Nov. so I hope we don't get a freeze or snow.
ReplyDeleteI prepare but it seems I am never really ready when the winter snows hit. We had our first snow today and I am not liking it Jen. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe are mostly done. I have one plastic chair on the patio that is easily carried away. It has not been warm enough to finish vacuuming my garage or the pickup..I guess it will wait until Indian Summer or next spring.
ReplyDeleteI used to plant tulips every year..DEER they love them:(
Your photographs today are breathtaking, Jen. There are many weeks left here before we winterize. Some years it’s well in to the New Year. Yesterday I planted snapdragons and soon hearty winter pansies ordered earlier this month should be in at the nursery. Now I’m off to check out your new Farm Chick site. Happy Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteOh. Trick or treat. It didn't used to happen here. Now it does. My immediate chore will be to make sure there's something ready for the children who come knocking.

ReplyDeleteOh well, winter prep chores are so many...where oh where do I begin? We've got our hay for winter in the barns, need to buy bedding for the horse stalls, have been cutting and gathering firewood, 4 cords so far, would like at least 1 more, need to buy a pallet load of pellets for the stove, I've done about all the canning/freezing I'm going to do, need to work on my garden boxes to "uppen" the soil for next year, yard clean-up is pretty much done, deck furniture stored away, new load of gravel in parking/walking paths to the barn are done, poop pile/compost pile re-piled for next year, need to clean chimney still...whew!! See what I mean? On a farm, the work never really ends! We like to think of it as "free aerobics"...now if we just had that spa for soaking in after all the days' work was done! :)
ReplyDeletePretty much done here. Just have to throw away the frozen mum plant and toss the frozen pumpkins in the woods for the deer to polish off!! Waiting for Sandy's wind to blow over.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are seriously making me homesick for the farm!
ReplyDeleteMy yard and house are prepped and ready for the winter. Now, I have to wrap my mind around the reality that Winter will be here soon.
Actually, I'm looking for the able bodied men in my family to finish up the outdoor chores! The lakehouse is done thankfully, but we still have patio furniture here and I just leave my pots out. Sometimes I even use the same potting soil in the spring, just adding some fertilizer. My tulips and daffs did not put on much of a show this spring. I don't know if the mild winter killed them or just kept them from sprouting. I'm not going to plant any more until I know what I have left!
ReplyDeleteYour snow pictures are so pretty. I'm looking out the window now and it looks like it could start to snow any minute but we have none in the forecast. Just cold and wind here.
XO,
Jane
I attempted to get more chores done this past weekend but there's still a million things to do. I tend to start with the absolute musts and work my way down the list (MUST take in the hose and turn off water otherwise there'll be damage to the line, however my rusted metal crab on the other hand can wait to come inside as he's already rusted beyond belief)
ReplyDeleteFor the first 15 years of my life I participated in those winter prep chores and the ones I remember most were taking down the a/c units, putting on storm windows and changing the tires to snow tires. Living in the south requires no special winter prep - well in Florida anyway - only if a freeze is predicted then everyone covers their plants and the orange growers have long nights keeping the trees from freezing. Here in CA? Don't know yet! I hear we will have Santa Ana winds soon, but have not heard what prep may be needed. Congrats on your Farm Chick gig! Ann
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots, Jen! The owners will be doing the raking and tidying up for winter here. I spent the afternoon rearranging the computer/library/tv room, with the computer at the shop, have to find something constructive to do. I will post photos in a later blog on the showcase pieces we are submitting. The phots are on my time machine.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I'm still working on autumn chores! Maybe I should start thinking about winter chores. Beautiful images--time to start thinking snow because it will be here before we know it!
ReplyDeleteI am feeling very lazy today. It has been so cold this week that I haven't wanted to get out at all and I am not feeling the energy to even do my sewing. I am glad to see you getting so much done. It inspires me. :)
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Laura
Well, one thing I need to do is put wire covers on the containers planted with tulips that I've stored in the garage. The mice haven't dug deep enough yet, but I think they will if they're hungry enough.
ReplyDeleteI will get most of my chores done soon and then maybe a bit of weeding if we don't have snow or freezing weather.
ReplyDeleteWe are all ready for winter. We don't want it. But we're ready for it. :)

Hi Jenn,
ReplyDeleteWhat pleasure it is visiting your beautiful blog. Each one of your photos are awe inspiring. You live in such a beautiful part of the country. We have had snow (only light) here in Central Oregon twice already. We have a long winter and a very short summer as a rule.
Thank you for sharing the world that you live in...You are truly blessed.
Carolynn
We've still got hoses to put away and pots to put in the shed. Got the last of the bulbs planted this week! Mulching the flowerbeds/raspberries, still needs to be done, too. Coming in to the home stretch now!
