And then my brain left the building

One of our favourite sayings is

“Elvis has left the building”, not

because we love Elvis, but it just

has such meaning and is multi

purpose. Now I am going to have

to learn to substitute “my brain

has left the building.”  It’s not

menopause, it’s just life, things

happen, life goes forward, and

my brain leaves the building

without warning. Brain farts,

seniors moments, flash drive

failure.

Loss of train of thought, as in it left the station without you, didn’t they mention it?

You can call it what you want, it’s annoying when you suddenly have this blank spot where just a moment ago there was a thought. Especially when you are cooking dinner, and suddenly the recipe in your head is turned upside down by the total lack of recall.  That usually only happens when I am cooking two different things, and forget to concentrate.

We end up with some pretty interesting dishes, coconut curry turkey burgers, and chilli bean, and yam spicy tortilla soup.  They were all pretty good tasting, although I don’t know if I would recommend cooking like this.

My husband says I like to cook exotic food, this is the guy who loves creamed corn, I just say my brain has left the building, and the ingredients went with it.

If it’s not menopause what is it?  Does your brain leave the building?

  2. More often than not, Jen. I run downstairs to get something, then can't remember what I was there to get. So I run back upstairs and voila! I remember what I was was going to get. SO back down the stairs I go with my brain in tow. Not even a product of getting older... been doing this for years. Way too much stuff packed in my brain.

  3. Frequently, but then all of a sudden I'm back on that train.

  4. Left the building, heck it ran down the street, as fast as it could. Welcome to my world. I especially hate it when I'm having a conversation with someone, and its like I can't speak. The words ran away!!! Aging is not for wimps!!! Side not, I love the train photos.

  5. Not sure my brain was in the building in the first place.

  6. No. Never.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  7. Jen girl I have had so many "Brain FARTS" it is a wonder why our house hasn't just blown up (especially since we have a gas ? fireplace!)
No doubt .. when I go out today on my own, even with the list in hand and coupons as a bonus .. I will forget something and the frustration will have me .. hum ? expelling air yet again? wink wink
    Joy : )

  8. I need to pick up a train schedule so I know when to plan things. The conductor must be drunk and the engine is slowing down. Don't even get me started on that blowing horn.

  9. Neat clear big picture taking.

Sorry I am going to blow a horn.

I am laughing at your blog.

Great for this morning look at your blog reading.

Where I live the only train tack is for walking, snowmobiles, four wheel dirt bikes.

Trains left years, years ago. Honest Engine.

So yours is the very thing to my area.

We have the train Engine only for show and tell in one pavement area for visitors.

So you really have not loss your Brain.

  11. At least you can say you are a creative cook! I tend to do the old walking into a room and forgetting why I came in there!

  12. Loved your train photos! You have different looking cars than us! I suppose they carry lumber on those open cars.
Yes my brain is often times gone. I loose words or my train of thought mid sentence and just let the words trail off..especially if I am distracted.
In my case I am certain it is lack of concentration..or trying to do too many things at once...or old age..and brain thickening:)

  13. Oh, yes it does. And sometimes forgets to come back for a while.

  14. Yes. And then I panic running after it. Eventually we meet up again, but there's no telling what happens in the meantime.
I think it's a product of multi-tasking, which is simply shifting gears in our brains quickly. We lose that ability to shift quickly as we age, much as I hate to admit it and will deny writing it.
    Gorgeous photos.

  15. LOL All the time . I end up saying if I had a brain I would be dangerous or ya missed the brain train girl ! or just plain brain dead lol ! My brain has been on vacation more then I would care to admit . I just laugh at my self and think girl your bonkers ! Some times I am in the middle of a conversation and my mind just goes blank ! What was I saying ? oh yeah lol. I think it is because we do think to much it's and overload so it blanks out to restart ! That's my story and I'm sticking to it lol ! Have a great day !

  16. I think our brains leave the building just to get away from us for a moment. My theory is that we overload them as we end up with more and more responsibility. I enjoyed your post (lovely photos), Jen.

  17. There is so much we think about we fail to be in the moment so our brain is used to wandering...I am trying to be more in the moment these days although I cannot multi-task...but I enjoy being more in the moment

  18. When I sit down in the lanai on a sunny day like today...I do what I call 'zone out'. It's pretty close to taking a nap but I look through my favorite blogs and stare a lot! heehee! Your cooking sounds...interesting! Enjoy your afternoon!

  19. I had that the other day when I was trying to leave a message on the phone for someone to call me back on my cell and after screwing up the number a few times I gave up and hung up. Valerie

  20. Superb rail shots, Jen. Yesterday I bought a new pack of pens . . . aimless reading : on the back, “Incredibly fast and clean writing that effortlessly keeps up with your thoughts.” Glad something is going to take care of that. Stay focused!

  21. Sometimes I look down the tracks hoping to see it come back! Seems like it is more often then not lately. I LOVE the pictures today! So pretty!

  22. My brain? Didn't know I had one until now:) Yes, the older I get, the more stuff that goes one....the more selective my memory becomes:)

  23. Oh yes! Sometimes I can scare myself when my brain has left the building. Had to laugh...we use the one Elvis has left the building for one thing only. We have a bat who resides in our horse barn. Elvis. He likes to dive-bomb me, and only me. He knows that I am terrified of him and he enjoys torturing me. He's a perfectly rude bat. So, my husband has taken to going inside first, checking out the situation regards to Elvis...and then reports accordingly. Hence, Elvis has left the building. It works for us.

  24. All the time. I especially hate it when I suddenly can't think of a name or a word that I should know.

  25. I'm noticing my brain is doing this too. I especially am having brain farts over finding the right word to complete a sentence. It's like my net renal dictionary has left the building.

  26. Oh gosh, my brain leaves the building so often, I am not even sure which train it rode out on. I just start laughing. What else is there to do?
    Love your photos.
