Pinterest: Easy-peasy chalkboard lettering

Chalkboards are very

popular right now, the

lettering ranging from

stunningly simple, to

wonderfully artistic.

What are you supposed

to do if you are not able

to duplicate the tight

spacing and even lines

that it takes to make

this craft shine?

Print out your lettering, rub a piece of chalk over the back of the paper, and transfer it to the chalk board by tracing each letter with a pen. Fill in the outlines with chalk for a tight hand lettered look.

Easy-Peasy!

This Practically Pinterest post shows how easy this is to do yourself at home.

Make your letters look as good as those of a artist by following this simple tutorial I found on Pinterest from Emily Jeffords, who wrote a guest post for Indie Craft Parade.

She printed out her quote, rubbed the back with a piece of chalk, and transferred it to the chalk board, by tracing over the entire letter with a pencil, and filling in the chalk transfer on her board. Easy-Peasy!

Mine was made in a hurry, I needed to catch the daylight with my camera, so don’t laugh at my birds, this board gets changed out every week, it was rushed.

I took a old frame that was hanging around and gave it a quick dab of cream chalk paint, and cut a piece of board to fit inside.

Here’s another tip for you, found on Pinterest, use black mat paper instead of a chalkboard, it’s easy-peasy to work with, inexpensive, and looks like a chalk board.  Use a pencil sharpener to sharpen your chalk, I also used a artist pencil filled with chalk pastel to give me nice clean lines.

Find a old frame, get some mat black paper, and create your own work of art.

  3. A very creative idea. I checked out Pinterest and may do it once I've got a cell phone...or is that Instagram?:) Too many options. My chalkboard writing has turned into dry erase marker writing today. I remember using a chalk board and breaking out in rashes from all the chalk dust! One time my neck broke out with a pink splotch and it looked like I got a hickey!!:) Not cool!

  4. We have a veritable graveyard for old school slate boards. Two of them are on our walls - one in the kitchen and one near my desk. They're large, and would look nice with a saying 'transferred' to the top. I think I'll do this. It's a great idea. Thanks, Jen!

  5. Aren't you getting crafty. Love this. I often would use chalk to put my patterns on my wood pieces so that there would be no trace of it left behind when I painted over it.
    Your birds are just fine.
A great idea to use black paper instead of actually doing a chalkboard finish. .

  9. ...oh, and isn't it just fitting that you should have a posts about "birds" and a "poetic" saying... tee hee... does it compare to today's post for me... I have to stop comparing, it's almost getting a little weird! ;0

  15. great info, Jen! I've always wanted to make a chalk board but I have no wall space in my kitchen. I can just imagine what my kids would be writing on it!

  16. Very nicely done. I'm still wallowing over here. I have yet to get started on anything substantial creatively. Unless baking pies and cookies counts...I think so!

  19. Such a creative idea, Jen. Thanks for sharing it with us..
I've seen different ones on several blogs and have wanted to do one. I guess it could be done with colored chalk too.
Your idea of using black paper is such a good one.. You can keep what you've done and just change the paper..
I couldn't do it free hand either.
