When life gives you lemons
you can make lemonade
which tastes wonderful, or
you can use them to scent
your home. This weeks
Practical Pinterest is a
sweet smelling one, and
simple to put together.
Take
a few slices of lemon, a
sprig of rosemary, and
a teaspoon of
vanilla, add about 1/2 cup of water. Simmer
on the stove to delicately scent your home.
Give your home a fresh scent, the nuances of the vanilla make it smells like someone is baking, the rosemary and lemon freshen the air naturally.
It was mentioned that this is the scent that Williams and Sonoma use in their stores, but I have never been to one of their store, so I will have to take the word of the pinner.
I loved the delicate waft of vanilla, and the tangy rosemary, and lemon combo.
And wouldn’t this make a lovely hostess gift, a cute bowl of lemons, vanilla, and some rosemary sprigs? Here is this weeks Practical Pinterest.
Diana from Elephants Eye mentioned to me that it looks like Microsoft might be phasing out one of my favourite blogging programs, Windows Live Writer. If you haven’t tried blogging with this user friendly program now is the time to give it a try before they take it away.
Everything Blogger blogs fights you on is made so much easier with this free download, I use it everyday, and I love it and I can’t imagine not using WLW to blog with. If you use Windows Live Writer, or want to encourage Microsoft to keep it, please go to this petition and sign it. Petition for saving Windows Live Writer.
We bloggers need to stick together and let MS know how we feel about taking away a program that makes blogging so much easier.
When life gives you lemons, use them to scent your home.

Fantastic photos, as always. I keep marveling at your photographic skills and talent!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the recipe; I am sure this mix will smell delicious. It reminds me a bit of old Guerlain fragrances I used to love.
this is my kind of air freshener, those plug it in plug it ins KILL me!
ReplyDeleteLove all natural scents. This would remind me of my Dad, who many years, ago always had a pot boiling on the stove (just lemons & water) to drink for colds and sore throats.
ReplyDeleteI've never used Windows Live Writer, even when I used a Windows computer a few years ago.
.....or stuff them in your bra!!! I was so intent on reading how to make this wonderful scent, I missed all the wonderful photos until I scrolled back up to take a good look. Thanks for recipe, its a must try. In fact Citrus is my favorite smell, and just last night I was thinking to myself, I wonder if they make citrus candles, and gosh how much would it cost to ship and now you've solved my problems. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scents for sure. I have been in their stores but I don't remember what the aroma was.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what they will replace Windows Live Writer with....maybe it will be better. Okay quit laughing, I was serious.
So, I tried using live writer, and it turns out that it does something that a lot of work firewalls blocked? I was bummed, because it was definitely easier, but my mom couldnt see any of my posts through live writer. Pooh.
ReplyDeleteThis would be a lovely fresh scent for the home and what a beautifully presented gift idea! Love your photos and styling.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in an older house, we had a stove in the LR for heat. My Mom always had a container sitting on it with some kind of scent. In the winter, it was to put moisture in the air and she put something in it (I can't remember what) that smelled like menthol for colds, etc.
ReplyDeleteLove the scent of your lemon mixture.
Judy
I'll have to try this combination. I've put a bit of vanilla in a warm oven and that works beautifully to scent the home, all on its own, too.
ReplyDeleteI love lemons and vanilla. Sounds perfect to me as I hate artificial air fresheners. I will definitely try this one. I tried Windows Live Writer once and couldn't get it to work.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
Great idea Jen, I'll have to try that, and infinitely better than a "plug in".
ReplyDeleteNice photos Jen... I'll try the recipe out, not sure about the vanilla though, I have yet to like anything vanilla scented, most food scents for that matter I don't usually like, but lemons, yes! Cheers.
ReplyDeleteI never purchase lemons. Now, I need to rethink ignoring them in the produce aisle.
ReplyDeleteUmmm... this sounds like a wonderful recipe. I will have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteNice photos ! I bet that scent is lovely ! I did not hear of this Windows Live Writer being taken away BOOHOO ! I love it for my posts it is better then posting through blogger it's self and has more you can do with it for posts . I wish they would just leave well enough alone ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteGreat photos today!
ReplyDeleteI love natural scents - the chemical ones make me so wheezy - I will have to try this!
ReplyDeleteLike so many others, sprays give me a headache but these scents would be wonderful to come home to. Thanks!
ReplyDeletein our kinder climate, we always have windows open, the fragrance of my chosen plants wafts in.
ReplyDeleteHaving battled LiveWriter and Blogger, I am slowly, unwillingly learning the necessary little bits of HTML. I can do 'almost' anything I want to. Some problems I just don't focus on. (so much HTML for LW formatting that I let well alone on those few posts)
Great tip, Jen. I will have to try it.
ReplyDeleteI've never used Windows Live Writer, but I'm sorry to hear it may be going, for I know a lot of people that do use it.
xo
Claudia
I signed the petition..I love Live Writer and will be real sad if it goes away:(:(
ReplyDeleteI have the lemons - in the backyard! Have the vanilla. Darn! Will obtain Rosemary at some point as I love all these scents individually... Ann
ReplyDeleteThe lemons smell so good--smell a tech. Ha. I love the smell of lemon. I just might have to try your recipe. I use an Apple, and haven't had any problems. Too bad for Windows users. I also saw a message someplace that Google is getting rid of personal backgrounds, too. Doesn't bother me, but I am sure some bloggers will have to re-invent.
ReplyDeleteWhen our last home was for sale, I used to use lemons on the stove top all the time, but never thought of adding rosemary or vanilla--THANKS for the great idea!!
ReplyDeleteI love pinterest... ;-)!!!
This is such a cool idea I forwarded it to Hubby. We have plenty of lemons from our tree and rosemary growing out in the garden in a big hedge. Perfect!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. I love the scent of lemons.
ReplyDeleteYou need to move over to Wordpress!
I'm sure that is a lovely fragrance for your home, will have to try it. Does it cover the scent of wet dog?! And I've never heard of Windows Live Writer, must check it out. Why do these big corporations always get rid of the good stuff?! Deb
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of this scent...
