Snow covered rustic candle jars

1-Christmas lights20121118-4

Here’s a easy to make

Christmas craft that

will have you emptying

those pickle jars

as fast as you can

crunch.

Use up all of the old jars

you have in the fridge

with with this fun snow

covered rustic candle

jar craft.

A few jars, some

fake snow,

and a old book, some greens and a candle.  Voila!

Tear old book pages into uneven pieces approximately 2 -3 inches high, make sure you have enough to go around the bottom of each jar.  If your book pages are not old and faded enough you can tea dye them first to get that nice antiqued look.

Using Modge podge apply the book pages to the bottom of the jar, let dry.  After it’s dried apply more Modge podge on the top of the book pages, and dip the wet jar into a bag of fake snow [that’s the fun part, there will be snow everywhere].

Let jar dry, and then embellish with rustic twine, pieces of greenery, and a snowflake or two.

Just a word, modge podge while absolutely wonderful doesn’t make a good glue, so use some glue to attach your snowflakes.  Trying to get a good shot in-between them falling off of the jar was rather fun.

It’s important to know that you should only use battery operated candles with these types of ornamented jars in case of fire.

The glow of a battery operated candle is just as pretty, and much safer to use.

  6. Jen is getting her craft hat on!!! Very cool and pretty. I have used tea lights in mason jars before and you end up with a rather blackened jar that does not look very nice. Much better idea to use the battery operated ones.

  7. Love this, Jen! I pinned it. Hopefully I will replicate it in the next week or so. One more thing on the list, but it's one that should get priority.

BTW, your beautiful art cards arrived yesterday. Just as I expected, they are top quality and beautiful shots!!♥

  10. What a beautiful idea. Now I've gotta find a prego lady to help me with all those pickles!!! Think Kate would care to visit, after her bout of morning sickness?

OK maybe I've had too much coffee already, or perhaps the sun finally came out after days and days of fog!!!

  12. How pretty! The candles look real. Jen, you come up with best ideas for using what you have around the house. BUT there is no way I’m going into the dark recesses' of my fridge today . . . the first week of December is challenging enough as it is.

  16. These jars are beautiful. I might put pieces of torn sheet music in a jar to try it out.
