how to achieve your personal
goals on the internet, it’s
amazing how much information
you can find in-between
Pinterest pinning, and
searches.
One site suggests telling everyone
your goals, write about it, tell
about it, share about it…
I guess the next time I am
standing in line at the grocery store
I will point to a magazine of a
overweight celebrity and tell the
person standing behind me that one of my goals is not to end up looking like that.
So in order to achieve my goal of balance, [remember I don’t do words for the year, but if I did, that would be my word…] I am choosing to tell all of you my goal, and to ask for your help in staying on track. We all know how easy it is to get off track.
I want/need to get into better shape, just exercise a little a lot more, I won’t be claiming to enjoy it half as much as my husband does but it seems sensible not to have anything jiggling. Now that’s a sensible goal for someone who just turned 50 isn’t it? I suppose I could ask for spanx for Christmas, that would solve the slightly jiggly bit, but I would really like to put a effort into this.
We bought a treadmill, now the real reason for purchasing what I hope isn’t to be a very expensive cloths hanger like some people have [and I won’t mention names, but you know who you are] was so he could run all winter, he loves to run. With the rather large accumulations of snow we are getting it’s hard to get out there everyday.
Did you know that donuts can accumulate on your hips? I had no idea, hmmm I should create a calorie free donut, woman all over the world would thank me.
Apparently the treadmill was also bought with the idea that I use it, and this is where you come in. One, it needs a name….got any ideas? I am thinking Frankenstein….Franky, seems appropriate for someone who really doesn’t love exercising, but please feel free to suggest something.
And two, the most important, please hold me to exercising, ask me about it in the coming weeks, remind me I need to do it because donuts have calories.
It’s not my goal to give up the occasional donut, so Franky and I have to make friends.
Maybe not BBF’s, but at least during the long winter months we had better get to know each other a little bit better.
Hey Frankie, prepare to meet some donuts.
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
Yes, those are shiny new shoes…and I took photos of them the first day I got them. But they will stay shiny, because of my allergies they will not be worn outside, they will remain indoor shoes. Jen
You've never set a great goal, and I admire you for posting about it because I think by doing it, it gives you all the more incentive to do it! I've never met a donut I didn't like, and because of that Frank and I should be better friends too! Good luck--I'm cheering you on!
ReplyDeleteOk, here is what I want you to do. I want to see photographs of those new shoes. If you are dedicated to Frankie, the shoes will tell the story!!! Good luck, with it all. Rah, Rah, Rah, for Jen!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you ! For me I find walking every day with my Miggs who keeps me going , it has helped me loose and or maintains my weight , walking out side over terrain up and down hills or snow strengthens muscle , uses up more energy and calories then just about any exercise and is less stressful to the joints and heart , they say now that stressing your heart by forcing it to really pump harder by certain cardio exercises is worse for your heart , and walking for me is so much more pleasant to do with nature around me , I tend to forget it is an exercise and quite enjoy it ! I walk an hour a day or more depending . Jogging causes more jiggle I have heard as each pounding step causes skin to sag. Now I have some jiggle but heck I am getting older and mother nature will take over no matter what we do lol. I like your runners you go girl and have fun ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteHow many lemons do you want thrown at you in the line up with a opinion of voice. Tee, hee
ReplyDeleteI would think. Duck or run with your picture sneekers on real fast.
Good luck and remember have fun with it. I know what you mean about equipment being a clothes horse. I have a stationary bike that I really need to use soon, been waiting for the foot ankle problem to go away first. Nice shots by the way.
ReplyDeleteI have had a love/hate relationship with the treadmill. Once we moved, it lived next to my bed. Tired of not being able to get around it, I had it moved to the garage, telling myself and my husband that I can still use it out there. So far I have been very unfaithful. I am able to avoid donuts, though. I do like your banner an I am glad that you let me know just how new it is. My blog remains banner-less because I just haven't taken the time to work on it--like you said hours and hours.
ReplyDeletePretty new banner, Jen. As for your shoes . . . they just came out of the box, right? Boo has not played with the laces, they have not touched the floor, let alone Franky . . . you have not tied the laces after eating donuts? I would just frame them.
ReplyDeleteGood grief woman, go for the Spanx. Have you ever tried putting a body Spanx on? If that ain't a full body workout I don't know what is. Makes a run on the treadmill seem like a day at the beach...
ReplyDeleteI can't hold you to it because I am so woefully bad at exercising myself. I wish I could be more disciplined about the whole thing, but I am not. And we don't have room for a treadmill here.
ReplyDeleteBut I, of course, wish you luck! And I applaud you.
xo
Claudia
Wishing you all the best. I like Muffy's idea about your shoes will tell the story!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your quest. I, too, am trying to get in better shape this coming year.
ReplyDeleteWill keep in touch.

Oh I hear you Jen!! I say I don't walk in winter because it's too cold and slippery and windy and snowy but, we have a treadmill in the family room facing the TV that I could use every day. Notice I said 'could'? I'd rather be sitting at the computer or with it on my lap than walking. So. You're on! I'll be accountable to you and you can be accountable to me ok? I need to. I've gained 15 pounds in 2 years - 7 of them in the past 6 months. I need help. I have a muffin top and thunder thighs. I used to have them and I lost them from walking the dog but since he's been at our son's since April I have cut back on my walking. So, let's do it. Let's walk for our health. Thanks for the incentive!!
ReplyDeleteOkay- That's funny- I call our treadmill FRANK! I think it is because Frankly, my dear, he doesn't give a clap whether I use him or not...but he does have users besides myself. Just watch- soon you will be mumbling his name in your sleep- xo Diana
ReplyDelete(having to imagine snow outside, too cold for gardening, no, still don't like a treadmill) Frankenstein it is. But, I also don't like donuts ...
ReplyDeleteI have a morning routine of stretching and exercises - works for me. But not to the freaky extent of the woman body builder in the Mac ad. She, gives me nightmares!
The only exercise gadget that I manage to be fairly faithful to, is my Wii fit +. My 30-60 minutes just fly by.
ReplyDeleteGo for it! I'll be moving more this year as well.

When I lived the winter months in NC and it was cold, I walked on a treadmill and always kept a new pair of shoes for that. Keep them right by the treadmill with a clean pair of socks handy. And watch TV while you walk! That's my advice. The time goes by a lot quicker if you get interested in something on tv. And don't worry about incline or how fast at first...just do it! I usually walked 40 minutes...slow to warm up and cool down. I think you'll do GREAT! You and Franky...sounds like a plan!
ReplyDeleteHere's my 2 cents - just because you asked: if your desire to stay in shape is stronger than your desire to avoid exercising, you'll succeed. We have an elliptical machine that I use when it's too cold/dark to go for a long walk. My desire to fit into my clothes and feel happy about my appearance is stronger than my desire for just about any food. Plus, I developed arthritis very early (I'm 43) and was advised by my doctor to never carry extra weight because my knees can't take it.
ReplyDeleteIt all comes down to desire which drives motivation. For me donuts = weight = larger clothes and joint pain. However, I do eat small amts of chocolate every day to keep from going crazy. :o)
All that being said, YOU CAN DO IT!
I've been toying with the idea of getting a treadmill too...but then, I'd have no more excuses. I'm getting a very jiggling belly and I'm not happy. Sadly, I'm not happy enough to do anything about it yet. You certainly have my support - although, I have to say, you've always appeared very slim to me.
ReplyDeletehaha - I have the same goal - I just have more than a little bit of jiggle to combat tho. J
ReplyDeleteHumour helps, humour helps, just keep smiling, you can do this! from the little cheerleader that sits on my shoulder (I notice she isn't doing anything!)
You go girl! I hate the elliptical too..I don't hang clothing on it..but I do dust it every once in awhile:)
ReplyDeleteGood luck. I hate running, but promised my niece that I would do the half marathon in Deadwood on June 2. 6 months to go!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots of your new shoes. Good luck with the treadmill. I have an indoor bike that I really must start using again....
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm!!!! I hate exercising with a passion, but I do love to walk and haven't been able to for several years because of my knees. After knee number two is replaced next week I am determined to get back out there this spring and take up walking again.
ReplyDeleteFor me it is finding something you love. I hope you fall in love with Frank. (just don't let your husband know)
Hugs,
Laura
P.S.
Love the banner :)
I have a similar goal I am slowly easing into...Frankie sounds good and I will ask you if you ask me...mine is to get outside and walk several times a week even in the cold and snow...I do not jog and will not and now with my knee healed I hope to increase stamina, lose weight and get ready for gardening, retirement (new path in life) and my bike when the weather gets better....so have you started?
ReplyDeleteThis is something that is very hard and very important, so good luck! I have been working on this for years. At times it seems easy, but usually very hard. We have a stationary bike. One of the things about exercise is it is so darn boring. So I've watched LOTS of movies etc on Netflix while pedaling away. Anyhow, once again, I wish you success.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you can find something useful from this post?
