Juicy

Healthy eating isn’t cheap!Juicy-0709

But being healthy is priceless.

We all know that you can’t buy

your health, and what we do to

our bodies now, will be our

results later.

Ah potato chips you will

forever be my nemesis..

So in comes our juicer, we

just got the shiny new

stainless steel quiet as a

church mouse juicer.

In my mind potato chips are

on one side of the teeter totter

and Frankie, and the juicer are on the other side.

Juicy-0713

Some day’s I will allow myself to indulge in those crunchy treats, [just a small bowlful] and the tetter totter will drop towards the 20% not the best for you side, and the days I that I eat fully healthy and exercise properly, [that’s where Frankie comes in] the tetter totter goes up on 80% of the good stuff.

Well it works for me…Frankie, and the potato chips.

Anyways I love juicing…and am experimenting with all sorts of fun combos of fruit and veggies…it’s just so expensive to get them right now, but like I said good health is worth it.

So far we have celery, pear, green pepper, carrot, and apple, a fresh perk you up splash of healthy.  Add some cucumber for a green flavourful treat.

Then there is my mid winter “I’m in love with this” dark tangerine colored mix of Blood oranges, beets, and ginger which is supposed to be the new super food, bug fighter, and immune booster.

Juicy-0710

It can be mellowed out with a bit of cucumber, sweet bell peppers, and carrots…for a totally yum drink.

So what healthy habits are you picking up lately…and are they starting to stick?

  1. They all look delicious! Keeping that Vitamin C level up during these cold winter months. My healthful thing is getting back on the treadmill, eating gluten free, and making sure to get enough protein and greens.

  2. I just watched a documentary on Netflix "Hungry for Change" that discusses the benefits of juicing. Your creations look tasty.

  3. I have never gotten into juicing but I would love to get in the habit. The citrus is ripe in the groves here. We hope to drive out and buy oranges and lemons this week. Sweet hugs!

  4. Don't forget to add herbs. They are full of good things besides taste.
Raw beets are highly recommended to ease inflammation so your joints will thank you too.

  5. I'm trying Jen. I really am. But, it's so difficult to eliminate chocolate from my diet. The Christmas chocolate is all gone but I still indulge in a York mint pattie after meals (not breakfast) and sometimes a square of 70% dark chocolate (Lindt), which are both not too bad for a treat. I did make cookies yesterday and froze them. I have been eating an orange every day but am not into smoothies etc. (I don't have a blender or juicer) We have salad with most of our meals too and I don't eat large portions of food. As for the treadmill? Not doing good. Missed 5 days in a row now. :( A bit discouraged right now. It'll come.

  6. Looks and sounds good ! I like to use my blender and make a milk shake with skim milk , orange,, banana , strawberry's and kiwi oh it is soo good . I use the blender for blending the fruits as the fruit it's self is just as nutritious ! Of course I get rid of the seeds in them first and any extras lol ! I had a juicer long ago and didn't like it as much as I do using the blender I find the whole fruit is more filling as well ! Have fun though it is always good to feel good isn't it ? especially when it tastes YUMMY ! Have a great day !

  8. Good for you! I haven't really gotten back into healthy eating since Christmas and this is inspiring. Cheers!

  9. Looks good to me..except I would omit the green pepper..such pretty veggies...we never get blood oranges in this area. You go girl! :)

  10. It all looks good. I used to juice for many years when I lived in Vancouver. I have a very expensive juicer collecting dust...perhaps it's time to use it. We normally eat very healthy, lately we have been indulging in sweets such as pecan pie. Suffering now, back to healthy eating again. Great shots!

  11. The one thing I hate about juicers is cleaning all the bits and pieces. I bought an individual smoothie maker and love it so much, mix, blend and drink right from the same container.

  12. Jen - your blood orange juice is making my mouth water. It looks scrumptious! J

  13. Oh that does look good! I am trying to exercise more this year. Chocolate is my nemesis!

  14. We have a juicer, but I can't find it. Strangely enough, I do know exactly where the chips and chocolate are.

The only thing that is sticking here is the snow on the ground. I was doing really well at sticking to my healthy January living regime and going to the gym plus eating lots of fruit and veg, but now that it has snowed, I have reverted to piling on lots of clothes and hibernating.

  15. I'm not so much into juicing, but I probably should try it. I'm trying to limit carb intake. Need to drop the weight I've gained over the last year of upheaval - yes, I am a stress eater. Going to go eat an apple now...your pictures made me want one. Ann

  16. Yummm...and what a burst of color here too. I agree about our health being priceless.

I gave up coffee last year, that's my big change for the better. I LOVE coffee but I had a health scare (you might remember) that landed me in the emerg, from caffeine. I'm just fine without it now.

    Happy Week Jen, G

  17. Yes, Jen, you are right, all the good stuff for us is very expensive. $3.49 for a head of broccoli yesterday where I live.

  21. My small kitchen doesn't all for many gadgets. I do take my blender places it thought it would never go. The best investment I made was a little “blender” with four separate cups I can store in a covered basket. Everyone can mix their own special blend. One, I’m not stuck with a pitcher of icky stuff and two I’ve found one tends to go back and mix a second cup because it tasted good. Enjoy you day.

  22. This week I am 5 months potato chip free! We're awaiting the arrival of our clothes hanger - I mean, our treadmill(!) - in a couple of weeks. We had to order it in. I'm hoping that will swing the scales in my favour again!

  23. I've never used a juicer but this all looks delicious. We are eating lots of veggies and fruits, too.

  24. Good for you Jen. That orange and beet juice looks really yummy. My big health kick habit is eating less candy. Not a big step really but we have a candy jar at the office and it got me in trouble a year ago so now I try to veer away.

  25. Your juices look delicious. I eat tons of vegetables because I prefer them to fruit. But I do eat some blueberries (from my freezer) at breakfast, and have apples as snacks. I'm trying to exercise more - but that's an on-going thing, not a new year's resolution. Some days exercise wins, other days Miss Vickie's wins.

  26. It is so true that we can't put a price on our health. But remember 'back in the day' when it used to be the sugar cereals that were so costly? Not any more. Now it costs way more to eat healthy. But it is so worth it. I haven't used the elevators at work for 3 weeks now. Oh those four flights are hard on the old knees.... LOL!
    Keep healthy my friend!

  27. Looks tasty! Lately I've been craving Mango for some reason. I have to admit Edy's real fruit Mango popsicles are mighty nice. I also enjoy Pineapple, Banana, skim milk, and ice--all frothed up in the blender. Yum!

  28. Your photos make everything so vibrant and wonderful looking! I've had to adopt more salads into my regimen. Hubby makes the best chinese chicken salads and they make my body feel all happy inside.

  29. More power to you. I'm starting water exercises here in Havasu. Does that count?

  30. Must be the season, heh heh! I was just watching a bit of Dr. Oz today and it got me to rethinking my food choices as of late... and I did buy bananas yesterday to make some tasty healthy smoothies! Cheers~

  31. Beautiful food pics and those juices look yummy.
Me I am trying to ignore the remainder of the Christmas goodies.

  32. Its so funny that I came to this post. We have a juicer and I've been thinking about taking it down just not sure which combos to juice so it taste good. The one and only time I juiced, I didn't know what I was doing and used nothing but peaches. Well, the sugar high I got from that scared me away from juicing ever since.. LOL but lately, I think I need to get back into it.. Is there a certain place you get your juicing recipes from?

  33. I don't do juicing. I prefer to eat your choices raw and whole with my breakfast or lunch. The fibre also has a healthy role to play in our diet. But we drink boxed juice with our dinner ...
