No Winter Whining, I’m this weeks
official hostess, and loving it,
please visit Heather’s blog for the
link up.
Links are at the end of
the post.
So far we have managed
to focus on the bright and beautiful
during winter, effectively taking
our mind off of the sparkling snow
and glimmering icicles that are
adorning our rooftops, and
vehicles. Well, at least while
we are still cosy and warm in our houses, it’s when we get outside that reality hits. Hard. It’s cold outside,
brrrrrr.
Who in their right minds would leave the comfort and warmth of their glowing computer screen to venture out into the unknown, frozen north…..east, west or south and take photos?
Well, us/you of course. After all, this week’s subject is structures in winter. And one of the only things that will encourage me to get up early, bundle up, and leave the comfort of my computer is ….. barns.
Especially barns with snow on them, or barns in fog, or barns in the morning sun…I’m a barn stalker…yep, my name is Jen, and I am a barn stalker.
I have a black truck, with black tinted windows…a long lens, and I stalk barns. Barn-parazzi….want to join in? I’ve gotten some odd looks from the cows, while wandering down those country roads in my black truck, both windows rolled down in the below zero cold, erratically stopping wayside without warning, it’s a good thing the vehicles are few and far between.
I have my favourites, some I will drive for miles to get a shot of, and some are just around the corner but they are all beautiful in my eyes. Sadly most of them are starting to show their age, and some have fallen victim to the wrath of winter storms…roofless, sun bleached wood skeletons, they are still a remarkable piece of history.
So my choice for structures in winter is barns…may they shelter, and enhance our country landscape forever.

Good morning Jen. Love your photos today. Gorgeous snowy barn pics, especially the red barn and the one with the sloping roof. I'll be joining this afternoon with my post and you maybe seeing a little red theme in it too. :) Enjoy the day. Pamela

ReplyDeleteThat red barn against the white of the snow is so gorgeous. Well they are all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou picked some beauties, Jen. Each barn is unique. Thank you for hosting and thank you to everyone joining in today’s No Winter Whining sites.
ReplyDeleteNice barns! Love the whollop of red in the white landscape, and the stone structure is absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteI will bundle up and go out in the cold just to take photos as I am a Snap Happy Nut lol ! Awesome photos . I to love old barns but sadly I don't drive , well legally anyways ! So Papa and I often just go on the weekends and take barn photos as he doesn't have as much time as I do to take photos at all, he still works . Have a good day and stay cozy !
ReplyDeleteAh Jen, I love barns too, sadly, there are few barns, well nil really, in our area... so, if ever I am traveling and see a barn, I just about get whiplash from trying to catch a glimpse as we drive by (if I'm not sleeping as usual while traveling because I hate traveling by vehicle, LOL!)... and the red against the snow is so striking! Beautiful photos Jen. Cheers~
ReplyDeleteThese are so gorgeous Jen.I love old barns.
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I'm still whining about the winter...but we've got a couple of sunny days on the way, later this week, so maybe I'll try to focus on those a bit more. LOL
Happy Week, G
That red just pops off the page. I love barn photos all year long but you make them look warm in winter. I have joined into your meme this weekend. No whining here.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, I love your choice of structure for this week's theme! You found some beauties to photograph! Well done and I'll be checking out the other bloggers you mentioned to see more snow! Cheers, Jenni
ReplyDeleteWinter is beautiful. That is, if you are viewing it from a warm house.
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic shots, Jen, but I'm not convinced that I want to venture outdoors today to take photos. I was outside yesterday taking photos of eagles and I'm not warmed up yet!
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos of the barns - it is hard to choose a favorite! I can just see you "stalking" along the back roads!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots today!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are beautiful, Jen! Sorry you had to brave the snow and cold but your efforts made us happy!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a good weekend!
XO,
Jane
That red barn in the snow is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJudy
The bright red just stands right out in the snow. Love old barns. Beautiful. Valerie
ReplyDeleteThis could be my all time favourite post. I LOVE barns. They are so utterly photogenic and there's something just so charming about them. Not to mention the way the red shows up against the white snow. We attempted to venture outdoors today just to get some fresh air and exercise. Didn't make it far though, 15 minutes into our walk I was begging to turn around. I can't wait for this arctic blast to go away.
ReplyDeleteThat red barn against the white snow of winter is breathtaking, Jen. Barnstalker. I like the sound of it and they make such worthy subjects. So many different ones, different shapes and different stages of their lives. Ann
ReplyDeleteI am a barn stalker too! I love old barns, especially the red ones. Your pictures are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice out today we were able to bbq. But I'm still whining about the snow. :)
ReplyDeleteThat red barn just pops out of the snow!
xo Catherine
Love the great photos of the barns! I can just picture you with your telephoto lens sticking out of your car window. ;-) I enjoyed the theme this week!
ReplyDeleteOh I love barns too..and you have some god one..loved your photos..so wintery:)
ReplyDeleteJen, these are gorgeous! And I adore barns too (I aspire to barn-stalker status!). Love the reds, but that 4th one with the brownish bricks and semi-open multiple stories is a true beauty (an eerie beauty). And the dilapidated ones look their best in the snow, I think. Wish I could join in, but can't this time around.
