has been around for a long time
and is steadily increasing in
popularity each day…
Where on earth have I been?
Not doing enough of this fun
and easy craft, that’s for sure.
I guess I was focused on other
things, like photography and
didn’t pay enough attention
until I saw a pin on Pinterest
one day that made my
heart skip a beat, and I
had to find out more about it.
Don’t you love finding new passions, the excitement, the love, the search for supplies? Only problem is, it’s winter, cold and snowy outside, and the nearest supplies are over a hour’s drive away…which I don’t like.
But I did manage to snag some of those sharp little barbed needles that are so important to needle felting, and some unspun wool that is called roving, near by….I only had a 5 color choices, so I picked pink, and white. Glad I did, it’s such a soft color combo, and a good contrast to the icy blue snow outside.
For now instead of using a piece of upholstery foam, I am using a dishwashing sponge, they are cheap, and plentiful in my house. If you want to know all about Needle felting, and are wondering what on earth I am talking about, here’s a quick tutorial from blogger Mrs. Polly Rogers who is a very interesting blogger, check her out for yourself.
Click on my Pins, and needles Pinterest board link to see what I have been pinning for inspiration.. Needle felting is used to make so many interesting things, it’s very versatile. I’ve just started to create some fun items and does it ever feel good to have a needle back in my hands.
I made the heart garland, which is perfect to hang in our window for Valentines day, and Bootsie loves it. And because he likes to jump on my night table and knock things off, I made a eye glass case. A tiny change purse as a gift for a friend who sent me lots of her wool yarn scraps that I am loving..especially the turquoise colors.
It’s such a good feeling to be creative again…it’s a long winter, and we all need inspiration….what kind of crafts do you do? And are you a needle felter, got any tips for a beginner?

Beautiful and fun! And I just realized that I've been on your Pinterest board for the past 15 minutes!! lol I'm going to track down those needles.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried felting yet, but is does look fun. You sure dove right in-- love your projects!
ReplyDeleteWow! You picked up on the felting really well. Adorable creations, Jenn. I may have to check out that tutorial. Thanks!
ReplyDeletebeautiful creations, I love felt, and I love felted wool, my eyes don't allow me to do this anymore but I once did.I love the soft pink heart garland you made, beautiful.I love them all,
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I have been felting wool sweaters to make arm warmers! They have been selling very well! I need to do some crafting with all of the extra felted wool I have scattered all over the floor of my craft room!
ReplyDeletePainting, and thinking about painting, has taken over my life! Send help!! (I'm serious. And, make sure they bring a paintbrush with them.)
ReplyDeleteI love felting, but have never known anything about how it was accomplished. I really like those sweet little pink hearts. So lovely. What are you going to do with them?
Jen, I love your heart garland and the dark brown things you made. They are all beautiful. I don't do any handwork due to bad thumb joints. I have great difficulty holding a needle of any kind, even a pen to write. It's a good way to pass the long winter days though - for you. :) Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI love the garland...I really like soft pinks. This looks like a lot of creative, relaxing fun, too. When I get bored during the cold winter I usually whip out the cross stitch sampler I have been working on forever. It takes a bit of concentration so it's not totally relaxing but you get a good feeling about creating something.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Great shots of your new creative pursuits.
ReplyDeleteI have been needle-felting for several years. The possibilities are endless. For beginners, it's easy to use cookie cutters to get great shapes. Place your cookie cutter on a felted piece or mat, fill the cookie cutter with roving and needle-felt it in, really getting the edges felted in tight. I've also discovered that one can take yarn scraps, pull the plied fibers apart, and use them for color shading or accents. Continue to have fun. The heart garland is adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love the garland - a very clever idea.
ReplyDeleteOne of my good friends (NancyKay's comment is above) is a felter and is very talented with roving and the felting needles. She does amazing pieces.
I don't need another hobby..maybe when I retire:0 I have a project to crochet..my Mother insists I do..it has been on my desk for about two months:(
ReplyDeleteSo pretty ! You look like your ready for Valentines day ! My mum did this years ago but just called it stringing probably her word for it lol she was like that silly old bird she was lol Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteI've not tried needle felting so far. I have way too many other crafts and supplies that need to be used up. But oh, the temptation of something new!
ReplyDeleteThe little cases are lovely, and the pink and white hearts perfect for V-day.
Very nice, Jen. Your pink is eye-catching this afternoon. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYou are very creative! I have a friend who has done some of this, and felted wool makes some wonderful crafts. I immediately was drawn to your eyeglass case, as that is something I need. I must take up this craft for myself!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Haven't done that yet. You did an awesome job. Love your pink and white garland.

Jen, I have been so anxious to see what you were going to create with your new needle felting hobby... and I am not disappointed... adorable little gems they are... now don't go getting me taking on a new hobby! Cheers~
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute- I just love them. It does feel good to craft and enjoy the beautiful end results, doesn't it? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteSuch inspiration and I love your photos. I have a blog friend who creates her own felt from her sheep's wool.
ReplyDeleteI have admired felting on a number of occasions and have always wanted to try it. My favourites are the sweet little animals that you can make.
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun and you've made the most gorgeous items!
ReplyDeleteOh, you've done so well with this Jen. What an artistic person you are, in so many areas too.
ReplyDeleteWe tried felting Easter items a few years ago and it was such fun. I'll have to find those eggies and put them out!
Beautiful work Jen. Lovely colors too.
I am uncrafty. I have a great appreciation for the artistry behind crafts but have zero desire to create my own. Ok - wait - I make jewelry. But that doesn't feel like a craft. It just feels like making jewelry. :o)
ReplyDeleteLots of folks are trying their hand at needle felting now, it seems. I remember several years ago seeing a lady doing it in a craft shop in Upstate New York. Wow! So much needle punching going on. Your heart garland is so sweet. And the coin and glasses case are beautiful! Wishing you a fabulous Friday! Tammy
ReplyDeleteSadly I don't do crafts and never really have...my eye hand coordination is minimal and my knitting and sewing skills are terrible not for a lack of trying...maybe I will find something I can do one day :)
ReplyDeleteOh this craft looks adorable an addicting too! I think if I take on on more crafting project my husband may go over the edge..LOL.. I am a knitter an a crocheter. I am just starting on Christmas gifts this month for this year..trying some new things and learning which is half the fun of it all!
ReplyDeleteRobyn
So pretty Jen! I made a couple little needle felted hearts a couple of years ago, but not nearly as sweet as yours! Now you've got me wanting to get out my needle felting stuff! Lol
ReplyDeleteJen, your garland is adorable!!! You and Meredith must be on the same wavelength.
