DUH! moment, a split
second that we are not
monitoring our own
well being and end up
doing something that we
would not normally do….
Like misplacing our wallets
the car keys, or even forgetting
where we parked the car in the
supermarket lot. Maybe it’s
taking one medication and
forgetting the other one.
Or not remembering it’s garbage
day until the truck drives past your house. Letting the pot boil over onto the stove, leaving the tap running,or a light on in a room that is unused for days.
It’s a DUH! moment, and yes that’s Homer Simpson you hear in the background with his trademark DUH!
I’ve had a few too many lately…like the mad money change purse that I “misplaced” for over a week, it held around $20, enough for a good amount of craft supplies, and it was lost. Big time, in fact the last time I remembered having it in my hand was in a dollar store…and I thought for sure someone else now had a mini windfall.
Then there was the $50 bill a Christmas gift from someone, I put it in a “safe place” you know those places..the kind you tell your husband “remember where I put this for safe keeping, because you know that I won’t remember” and he absent mindedly nods yes while doing something else. I hide it, and a month later realized that I couldn’t find it. And he had no idea what I was talking about.
The day I tried to scrub the inside of a glass clean with a long handled dish brush, pushing too hard, for some silly reason thinking that the glass would stretch…it did, as it cracked and cut my thumb open. Still bandaged over that one.
Too many DUH! moments lately, too many cuts, too many lost items…
How many DUH! moments have you had lately…and can we blame it on winter?
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams
I have sadly had too many of those moments later. I blame it on menopause but sometimes I wonder if it's just that we have too much on our minds. Yes...let's go with that one. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week Jen!
xo Catherine
Oh yes . . . I have had a few of those lately . . . Dangerous when we tell someone to remember something we want to make sure we won't forget . . . smiling big time!
ReplyDeleteI hope your 50 shows up soon.
Love your photos . . .
I've had these, too, Jen. Is it our age? That we're spread too thin? I rarely lose things, I'm pretty good about putting things in their place. But many things go right over my head. My daughter walked into the kitchen the other day and I asked where she was going. She looked at me and said, "Duh?". She was wearing her work uniform! lol!
ReplyDeleteHave aa good week, Jen!
XO,
Jane
I tried microwaving condensed milk to make toffees )))))) not in the can of course - I poured it in a bowl... still, it was a disaster because there was a fountain of condensed milk inside the microwave, took me an hour to clean... and last year I lost $100, I have no idea where. Eh well. I need more sleep I know. Hope you find your $50 bill soon.
ReplyDeleteoh Jen, I hope the change purse and the 50 dollar bill show up soon and that your thumb heals , I have been there done that for sure, my life is a whole series of duh moments!!
ReplyDeleteThey do seem to come all at once. And one of my pet peeves is looking for something. I hate to search...it's frustrating and I become obsessed with finding the object! lol Hope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteWhat like going to put the milk in the cupboard , or peanut butter in the fridge , knowing what you want from another room then get there and stop and stand looking around wondering what ya came in here for ? LOTS ! I do it all the time and find myself laughing at it all ! I call it a sometimes moment not a senior moment yet lol ! I rarely miss place or loose things . Papa however would forget his head if it wasn't screwed on lol so I don't ask him to remind me for anything lol ! Some things I can remember for other people but for me not a chance ! Menopause that's what I put it down to lol . Hope your thumb gets better soon ! Lovely photos and pooches ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteYou mean like when you say Homer says Duh when actually he only says Doh! Lol. Sorry couldn't resist that one.
ReplyDeleteHe we only have so much room in our brains and new stuff has to wait its turn to get in and stay. My brain is so full of song lyrics from the 60s and 70s that there is no room whatsoever for new bits of information . Eric Burdon ain't moving for no one.
Yes, I have had those moments lately too. I'm not sure what to blame it on but I'll play it safe and blame it on winter while I hide the possibility that it might be something more serious that runs in the family. Scary thought.
ReplyDeleteDuh moments all of the time. I have lost some really important things, like my debit card. Still don't know where I left it, but I was lucky that the person who found it call the bank and reported it lost. Duh.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, yes. LOL! It is my middle name anymore... Lona Forgetful.
ReplyDeleteI blame everything on age. LOL! But it is my lack of concentration that really does me in.
Love the shot with the dog and the snow on its nose. My dog always buries his nose in the snow too and looks like that. Have a great week Jen and I hope you find your money.
Great idea. Let's blame it on winter. I've lost my favorite blouse and my favorite DVD. I know they're around here somewhere but good grief! I've wasted way too much time hunting for them.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the cut hand. I've done that too. Love the snowy dog photo. Aren't they cute when they do that. :-)
Be careful today. And let me know if you find an extra $100 bill. It's mine. ;-)
I would like to blame my DUH moments on something. Don't think winter would work - it's 75 degrees here today.
ReplyDeleteAll the time.......scares me. Or I am driving and forget how to get there. That may be a bit serious. Medications, headaches, celiac, aging, all really good reasons......or excuses, hah.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I can relate.
ReplyDeleteMy frustration grows when I find the items in the exact place that I looked repeatedly.
Been there and done that. It's January funk and winter. Love your dog shots.
ReplyDeleteI see we all have our "duh" moments. Maybe we wouldn't have so many if we weren't trying to juggle so many things daily. Hmmm. Not sure I could blame it winter, though.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos of the dogs in the lane. I really like the rolls of barbed wire piled with snow too!! Great shots.
Gosh I have them all the time, I blame them on menopause!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
Oh- I have those all the time, Jen. I even did that glass thing one time with my hand wrapped in a dishcloth down inside the glass....as few stitches later and I was as good as new..lol I put a necklace somewhere a few weeks back thinking (it will be safe here) and can't find the danged thing anywhere- UGH- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteDefinitely have a few too many of those. Seems to get worse the amount of stuff I have on my plate. A reminder that I need to slow down and concentrate.
ReplyDeleteI'm just happy to know I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteOops - I recognize these DUH moments!
ReplyDeleteLove the snowy shots.
Good morning, Jen. I see I am in good company. My last one was “loosing” my credit card, calling for a replacement and finding it in the washer ~ DUH!
ReplyDeleteI recently lost my mailbox key. Had to clean out my entire closet before I found it! Hadn't thought to blame it on winter! :)
ReplyDeleteHaving lots of duh moments too! How I wish I could take pictures of everything I do:)
ReplyDeleteNice photos by the way:)
I get into a complete stupor when skies are grey, so yes, I think we can blame it on winter. :)
ReplyDelete~ Zuzu
Yes, let's blame them on winter, good plan.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your comments about telling your husband and he nods about something, been there, done that many times here. I write things down now that can't be forgotten, that way I know there will be a ref. when needed.
I've never actually forgotten where I parked that must be a bit scary but these days, no cars so no worries on that score. I have stashed $$ in safe places though and forgotten a time or two.Usually show up sooner or later though and that's kind of fun in itself.
Hope it's a week of no DUH moments Jen. Don't sweat the small stuff though.
Yep, we all have them. Seems like it's something we never grow out of. It's human nature, and the theory of entropy, and just...life! Be careful that you don't hurt yourself, though!
ReplyDeleteI have them all too often. Lately, I've been boiling a pot of water on the stove to help add some much needed humidity to the house and 9 times out of 10 I have left it too long and it has boiled dry. Duh.

My specialty is leaving things behind: my phone, my wallet, my keys, my gloves, etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteJen girl one of my embarrassing ones was e-mailing Luminosity (yes by god I did!) about one of their games driving me nuts .. when the explanation came back I must have been beet red reading it .. thankfully ? I was told it wasn't just me .. that they were going to redesign the game because a few people thought the same thing I did .. phew !
ReplyDeleteJoy
PS .. hope finger is getting better and that money shows UP!
Every day. Every day. I can't even blame it on winter... Ann
ReplyDeleteLately my duh moments have been at a minimum...I equate them to new and full moons and we all react differently to these moon events.
ReplyDeleteSounds like winter brain freeze to me!
ReplyDeleteOh dear Jen... we have done it together again... heh heh, mine has been sitting waiting in the wings for the perfect photo, but I love when our minds are as one again... and which of course reminds me that the reason for my "writing" is the fact that I recently discovered I have somehow misplaced my 10-year anniversary ring and I have still not been able to find it... and I am afraid it may have fallen into the bathroom garbage and has been lost forever... I'm hoping not, but only time will tell as often happens when you lose things, they sometimes show up when you are looking for something else! Cheers~
ReplyDeleteMy DUH moments almost catch the house on fire. sigh
ReplyDeleteSend yourself an email. Use email as your private messenger service..better than a husband who can't remember anything. I am sure you will find the $50 bill someplace..and have you checked all your coat pockets for the coin purse..or the vehicle..I used to have a coat that would drop my coin purse in between the seats in the car:):)
